Obama's New Cadillac Limo Officially Unveiled

Closer to 14000..... it's not a damn big rig LOL

Actually, thats exactly what it is. I would bet money that besides the emblem, this car does not have a single cadillac part on it. This is what it's based off of.

Like I said, it's not a big rig:

That GM doesn't weigh 40,000 lbs...

Oh no doubt, still a big ass truck.

Look at the thickness of the floor on the one with the door open its like 12 inches thick thats probably solid titanium alloy to protect from IED's.

Oh yeah, did your defensive mettalurgical background lead you to that conclusion? Titanium is a terrible armor, its one of the softer metals.

Really? Thats interesting because they deem it good enough to surround the cockpit of the A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog) from anti-aircraft rounds...

http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/a-10/

The single-seat cockpit is protected by all-round armor, with a titanium 'bathtub' structure to protect the pilot that is up to 3.8cm thick. The cockpit has a large bulletproof bubble canopy, which gives good all-round vision.

And I said titanium alloy, not PURE titanium. Who knows anyway it could be a mixture of steel and kevlar, or this new really cool metal called Vitrelloy.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer actually, not a Metallurgical Engineer...

Titanium is definitely not SOFT, its hardness also causes it to be BRITTLE...

Man I love those thunderbolts, the Soviet Hind had the same kind of armor. But both those machines were designed in the late 60's or 70s, and the armor was designed to resist small arms fire and AA rounds, which were usually not larger than 20mm.

I will recant and say that Titanium is an awesome metal, lots of cool properties, decent as armor, but theres a reason it is only used on aircraft. It's very light and good at dispersing energy from small area impact, but I don't believe the US has ever had a fighting vehicle armored with titanium, and I think at this point theres probably something stronger/more effective available.

I saw a diagram somewhere highlighting some features. They've got his type of blood on board in case of an emergency transfusion, the only window that opens is the driver (3" is all) and he's got all access to everything from his 'mobile suite'.

My favorite part is that one of the SUV's following has a deployable gatling gun from the roof. I want one.

Wow, impressive,

LOL @ "window opens 3in so the driver can pay a toll". I'm sure that will happen often... "Hey Mr. Prez, have a quarter for the toll by any chance?"

BTW, being a GM car, I'm sure the Administration got Employee Price :D

E-ZPass for the Northeast (if he is in the DC area). Problem is with the windows, I'm sure the transponder's signal won't go through :D

(Plus let's be honest, do we see him paying "any" toll @ the booth? )

I don't think they'll be sending a ticket to a huge limo with a motorcade with the license plate USA 1 LOL.

I know I laughed so hard they even put that in the diagram. I mean really? Does the President pay for anything? EVER?

PS: Do you think they should have to retest to make sure they can drive again after an 8 year gap, they might have forgot... not so much Obama... but Bush... think about it.

http://www.boston.com/cars/news/articles/2008/11/06/cadillac_testing_new_obama_limo/?page=2

"Aircraft tie-downs welded to the chassis allow the limousine to be transported aboard a military cargo jet, which also often carries the Secret Service's Suburban escort vehicles and at least one limo used as a backup or decoy.

On television footage of a trip to Pakistan in March 2000, it appeared as though President Clinton's motorcade used five decoy cars.

Thus, it is likely GM is building not just one new presidential limousine, but perhaps two or three that can be used as backups or decoys. There will be no way of knowing until the cars are seen together."

---I didn't think about the fact that they need at least two of these limos.

Yes, pays taxes on his income at least. As per the rest of the job "perks" of course not. Now, if you ask that the salary is sufficient for that type of job, I say no. You have to really have a particular ambition to get that job IMO (especially nowadays)

they also pay for their dry cleaning and day to day stuff... just like any other American family. :)
