now running without intercooler.

Ive been boosting 9psi with a t3/t4 non-intercooled for more than 2 weeks, I had a small front mount intercooler with 1.75" ID inlet/outlet, I thought the size was restrictive so I completely bypassed it with 2.5inch pipe. before I was boosting 7psi wit intercooler and after removing it Im runnin 9, theres 2 psi of drop. It makes a night and day difference on throttle response. before I coudnt get boost before 3500rpm now I have 5psi by 3000rpm.

PS: I do have water injection to help knocks. The pcm is tuned with aemfic piggyback, for timing retard, -1degre per psi of boost, 440cc injectors, 2.5 straight pipe, bkr7e, 160F thermostat etc..

I have to say I never heard my engine knocks, even with 87octane regular gas, thats what im running all day long. And yeah, ive been boostin the motor with 87oct for a year, even compression 205psi all accross. water/meth injection saved my car I guess.

how can i kill my turbo... the engine handles well at the boost so far, when the injection kicks in its like runin on 96octane gas. After some HARD run the manifold was cold to touch, the metanol evaporated and takes the heat away. A good tune will always save the motor, this is my final conclusion.

why...

"Increased air pressure can result in an excessively hot intake charge, significantly reducing the performance gains of supercharging due to decreased density. Increased intake charge temperature can also increase the cylinder combustion temperature, causing detonation, excessive wear, or heat damage to an engine block."

referring to your thread title

I do have something more efficient than a intercooler called water/meth injection... also, a t3/t4 60trim at 9psi its still sleeping, the compressor efficiency is near 80% below 15psi... the aimbient air is near 32F so I dont see at 9psi the compressor would heat the air up to 200F... not with a t04e compressor though...

but anyway, i reinstalled the intercooler after bore out the inlet & outlet to 2" ID, Felt a big loss at low end but gained at high end.

Good on you man..

I know of a few Turbo Setups that done use Intercoolers.. infact back in the day there i dont think they used a turbo on most setups

HPA do a Turbo set up for a MKIV R32s

go hard man

Wow, you people should do some research before you start dogging someone.

This guy is only doing what people have been doing forever.

You guys have really shown your ignorance here. (gtfo)

Nice setup, XoX1de. I know guys running boost no intercooler. People have been doing this s*** forever. I say eff em, just keep this stuff to ourselves man, no need to let these kind of people in on our secret.

I'm a fellow alky user. ;)

It seems alky kits are not very popular in this forum, or simply because the users are not very knowledgeable...

yea man if its working for you keep it off your using the alk. to cool the air instead of the cooler. by the pm on how you got the fic to work thanx

pretty sweet old school s*** going on.... i like the origionalism without the FMIC it dose work and work well why change a good thing... keep it going... i live bye the addage if it aint broke donr fix it, if it is broke go big so u can make it home

Thank you. I've pondered it myself. I'd rather run non intercooled on water/meth than on the stock intercooler that heatsoaks in 20 minutes of normal driving.

btw, can any of you guys give me an idea of how much use you get out of a tank of water/alky. Say daily driven, spirited like 30% of the time.

A lot. lol

I hardly ever drive my car. Maybe two to three thousand miles a year, and I go through methanol pretty quickly. Mine comes on at about 5.5 psi, at 5% injection, and is at 100% injection at 15 psi.

Do you use washer fluid or actual methanol made to spray into your engine? I've heard of using meth on na to improve fuel economy. Can you use an off the shelf kit to spray when not in boost and then increase the spray as boost goes up? Or would this have to be custom?

I use a 50/50 mix from Devil's Own, and sometimes straight alcohol.

Yeah, you can definitely use it on n/a but you'd have to tune for it to see any gain in MPG. I don't know how it would work though, because my methanol controller is boost dependent.

I hate to clutter up this thread but where do you have your meth entering your car? the intake manifold or what?

i did kinda the same thing to my first car! it was an 1988 jetta and i rigged the window washer sprayer into the intake right before the throttle body. filled the washer res. with 100% alki and at around 4k rpm hit the window washer and held on. it worked for about a month and then the engine popped.
