Ok, i nead a short throw shifter badly...

I was comming home from work, when i got humiliated by a fu$%?ng Civic. :mad: Let me explain.

I noticed a riced out Civic as i was passing it on a triple lane boulevard, just a couple hundred feet from a stop sign. Didn't take me long to realise that the guy wanted to race as we were starting off the stop, so i went for it and pretty much floored it in first gear, i couldn't see the Civic as it was is my blind spot, which was a good thing.

6000 rpm, Thats when it happened, i tried to shift in second gear with that pole of a shifter we have, and i totally missed it, all i heard was a grinding noise, and the sound of a Civic going by.

No point in trying to do anything, he was gone............:'(

So that's why i need a short throw shifter.

You can also try just practicing for a day on the normal shifter!

i agree, keep practicing on a normal shifter, i dont think a short shifter would have helped.

However, you might want to check out if you have the same problem many other people have experienced going into 2nd at high rpms before. I remember reading many posts about it like a month ago. It may not be your shifting thats the problem, but something mechanical.

Maybe its just me but it sounds like you are rationalizing to tell yourself you need to buy a new short shifter

Short Throw vs Practice

OEM shifter is :bs: , but even after getting a B&M, I still think shifting into second gear is still a bit of an adventure, I just can't explain it. Yes the throw is reduced (42% if I remember corectly), but practicing the moves will help you more than just changing the shifter.

One note thought, the B&M gives you awesome feedback, the stock : NONE. Check out KartBoy, he sells bushings also.

Have fun, and you'll beat the Civic eventually.

The thing is i have been driving manual cars for 16 years, so i don't think it's a practice thing. I simply missed the 2nd gear.

I'm sure it must have happened to some of you guys, a least once, when you were doing a quick shift under race pressure

and to uclap5, yes, i am trying to convince myself to order a shifter!

You guys have the wrong attitude! Badvmc, it was clearly only the shifter that was the problem and no human error....you should be getting out there and buying one of the different short shifters available so you can get back to having nice clean shifts again.

The more people that support the aftermarket, the more different products that will get produced for our cars....that's gotta be a good thing.

you can still miss a shift if you have a short-shifter....
actually, i've seen more Protege members in my club miss shifts when they have short shifters installed. even though the throws are reduced, there is increased stiffness in the actual shifter and because your throws are reduced, your gearbox has to compensate and thus requres a quicker clutch release. so i guess timing is everything.

I've beaten many Civics with my Protege5, and haven't had one problem shifting ever. My guess would be that it is something mechanical.

Go for it! Get a Kartboy. It makes the shifts much shorter and much crisper. It does take a little bit more effort to get it to move but not a whole lot. Its only $106 shipped. It won't break the bank.
