Mazda 3s sedan, vel.red, fully loaded MSP 6 on order
I have a mz3 on order...should arrive 2nd week in June. My mom has an '02 P5 (5 speed) and my current ride is a '92 chevy camaro (305 V8, 5 speed). When I drive my mom's P5 it is no comparison to my camaro's power (obviously). I really have to beat on the thing just to get it going at a decent rate of acceleration. I know the mz3 has 30 more horses than the P5, but how noticable is it? Does it seem much faster than the P5? I really hope so, cause sometimes my mom's car feels like such a dog to me. I'm used to the V8....

3rd gen Protege was tested as having a 0-60 of ~9.0 seconds, while the Mazda3 clips 60mph at 7.5 seconds. That's a very large difference.

Yeah, that is a large difference...thanks man. Happen to have the numbers comparing torque between the two?

Well, going from a SBC to a Mazda is going to take some getting used to. The peak torque is probably alot lower than a Mazda. But a 3 should beat a 305 in the 1/4. Hell, I think even a 5 spd P5 should at least keep up with a a 305.

i had a 02 protege sedan before the 3 and there is a huge difference in accelaration. theres a little strip of highway i test my cars on. from dead stop pulling out i could get to the mark consistently at 68mph in the pro. in the 3 i hit it at 75 and probably could have done it quicker. so that 18 extra horses does alot. and if you get the s version it should be even quicker cause it has 12 extra horses over that.
