notchy 2nd gear

Hey i was just wondering if anyone else has a notchy 2nd gear. This is my first stick shift car but it still feels kinda notchy going from 1st to 2nd.

Yea- mine is rough from 1-2 also. Most sticks are, especially in the smaller cars. My integra was the same way. You gotta figure the car has the same tranny as the base model ($12,000) Protege. The competition is a Corolla, or DX Civic for trannys, so I don't think they're designed for sport-shifting. If this is your first clutch, I'm jelous because the silk clutch is one of my favorite things about the car.

Mazda tranny's don't seem to be as smooth as I'd want. I also wish the clutch was a little softer. Best tranny I ever had was a 97' Prelude, or the 92 SR Prelude. Honda makes the best shifters I've driven. Well, BMW's too.

Still, if you've ever driven a Talon, Eclipse, Camaro, Mustang, our tranny's are still a LOT better.

I don't think the MP3's is the same tranny as the LX, and SE though. Not sure.

mine seem to have resistance going from 2nd to 3rd if shifting at a high rpm. To make it smooth i have to hesitate for a sec then put it in 3rd.
