Not a Protege but...

Awesome man, sounds like it's going to be a real machine when it's done. I've ripped out my interior too, but only aft of the B-Pillar. I'm going to get 5% tints in the rear windows so no-one can see, and I've left the front stock so everyone thinks I'm driving a stock Protege. I'm even putting the cam gear cover back on, after I'm done tuning the cams. The only givaway will be the header, as I'm even going to make a custom plastic box for my pod filter.

My engine's only a 1.8, which will be bored 90cc with a 2mm overbore. I'm not even going to pretend to make torque, and BPs can rev pretty well, so I'm going to take advantage of that.

Have you dynoed your car yet?

you're right, they are. but most are in touring or stock classes. you need a lot of balls to haul around in a prepared class.

arguments aside, that weight = one seat, instrument cluster, soundproofing removed (dry ice method) and just about everything else. only a tach, shifter, and pedals remain inside (you get the idea)

basically curb weight isnt an issue. even at full interior weight (with me, and minus the soundproofing) the car ticks in at just over 2700. and while there are plenty of hondas ripping it up, the B15 sentra is at a loss for big race standings outside of the speed world challenge. i guess, really, this is going to be done just to do it. it will be a great all around motor, and still incredibly liveable around town. like i said before, i never took a liking to the "rev the crap out of it" feel. i grew up around muscle cars, and while i admire imports, theres not much like a big serving of torque. i'm not building this to impress dyno fan boys, or shame the honda crowd, but rather to have a great all around car that is pleasant to drive. a lot of people in the import community do not have this mindset, and i think it's a shame.
Got any pics of the interior? I would love to see it. I have been thinking about doing this to mine, but the car is just too new for me to do it yet. Give me a year or two, tho. :)

the interior in full strip mode was for base weight purposes only. i drive everyday with a full interior minus the soundproofing (cant put it back in). next big race ill snap a pic or two of it. its fugly.

btw, removal is fairly easy, all you need is some dry ice to freeze the stuff, some heavy gloves, and a scraper. and like 3 hours of your time.

im willing to bet a torch would melt it, or at least the nissan kind. dry ice can be had at most local stores, just to to the meat section and ask. i dont know about the protege, but theres PLENTY of it in the sentra. and the extra noise..... might wanna get a ride in a car without it first.

btw, i'll be spending all of saturday seam welding the entire chassis. heres to being tired.

Don't forget to weigh your welding material before and after, just to see how much weight you added to the car. You can use a whole lot when you're welding seams.

I'll bet your cabin isn't a whole lot noisier than mine. The 93 Proteges didn't have much in the realm of sound insulation to begin with, and they certainly didn't have thick sheet metal. Add that to my insanely loud 2.5" exhaust, and you really need some patience on trips longer than 20 minutes.
