03.5 MSP
okkie dokkies, just found these forums n ive looked around. now i wanna make a post.

ok, last september i bought a 03.5 MSP, used from a dealer. car had FMIC, thermal cat back exaust, drilled/ slotter rotors, blow off, intake, lowered done.

anyways, as of the past few months ive run into a few problems witch werent there in the beginning.

-when winter came the car made a big drip in oil consumption. upon acceleration, heavy or ot, lots of oil smoke out the back. i switched over 2 synthetic (castrol GTX) and i need to change the oil every 500miles. friends have told me it might be the bearing in the turbo or a gasket. any ideas? common problem?

-just bad gas mileage lol, my moms 06 Liberty does better. im gettin bout 14 city, 20 highway. granted i do speed n drive hard, but yea. o well

-Knocking... in the front. most of the time while turning under acceleration. sometimes in a straight line tho. just a dead knock, no vibration, no feeling it, nothing, just a noise

-filling it up, i guess its just the cylinoid. it wont fill up the gas tank, it keeps kicking back. making it annoying

-bucking under acceleration. it bucks then the RPM jumps. i read something bout it, its a code that can be fixed at the dealer.... i dont remember.

but yea, my only problems n complaints. other then that i absolutely LOVE the car. mazda love for days

sorry if these topics were brought up.. i looked and didn see anything.

thanks for the help n all that

Who ever had that car abused it to hell, that's why you don't buy modifyed cars used. My advice: Save up for a new motor, it's time for one. Anyway, the gas milage when you're gunning it sucks because of the turbo and short gearing.

It sounds like there is more underlying problems than just the heavy foot causing bad gas mileage.
If the BOV is venting to the atmosphere, then you are likely running rich, which could cause bad gas mileage.
As for the oil problem. Clean the engine, because i'm sure its a mess inside. And turn the car on and just let it idle. See if you can see oil leaking or forming anywhere around the turbo. Or anywhere in the engine bay for that matter.

man, sucks about your car...

like pluto said, buying modified cars are a no-no
i would not even buy my own car if i saw it at a delear...
anyawys, you bought it, deal with it....

before changing the oil, do a motor flush for 5 minutes, change oil to mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 which is what the gurus here recommend..

i would do a maf sensor cleaning...with carb cleaner....i would also check all the connections, you might be leaking vac/boost...
also, injector cleaning....
check the routing of the pipes...having a FMIC would give me an idea that it also has a BOV(since, stupidily enough, that's the only reason most people do a FMIC...for the BOV lol) check to see if the MAF is BEFORE or AFTER the maf sensor....if the later, you should be ok...if the first one...check to see if theres a BPV somewhere...if it just venting you might have what the other guy talked bout...and that's why you running rich...

leaking oil at the turbo?? if so...get it rebuilt...people charge to rebuild it anywhere from 150 to 500...

forget about wararnty, as soon as they see a FMIC, your wararnty is gone (if it isn't because it is over 50k miles)

i can't think of anything else...

good luck...keep us posted to see progress...

later

I take it the used car dealer warranty expired once you drove it off the lot?

My uncle told me when I was a kid: "Only buy a used turbo car if you have the money to rebuild it." He was talking about used Porsches but it's worse for MSPs because the majority of first owners were under 30.

Good luck, hope you get everything worked out.
