MSP No. 970
So let me tell you...having these cars is hands down the best experience i had to date w/ cars, but let me tell you NO ONE knows what the hell a Mazdaspeed Protege is. I came to this conclusion b/c im trying to sell my MSP for a Spicey MSP, and when people call they think their calling about their mothers Protege with nothing done to it. They call, and when you tell them about it and whats different from regular Protege compared to a MSP and how much blue book is and how much im asking their like psssssssh thats too much for a Protege!!! ITS NOT YOUR DAMN MOTHERS PROTEGE!!! Please someone else much share my pain....I know when i go to shows or just chilling no one even heard of these or let alone know the first thing about it!! Im rambling now lol Someone else has to feel my pain!!

Mike

Very little marketing on Mazda's part. Plus it was only around for a year.

yep... i encounter people all the time that don't know what a MSP is. i don't blame them, it's a car that was in very limited production for about 1.5 years. although the people that do know what it is have read about it in magazines, but haven't actually seen one in person.

Try selling an Omni GLH... At least the MSP is somewhat current and looks good, to boot. I know what you mean, though. When I first bought my car, I had to explain the difference to people.

Hey Omni GLH's are awesome little ugly cars lol they are SUCH a sleeper lol

The GLH was alright... now the GLHS had some huevos. But either, nobody expected it. My SHO got me more attention than the MSP. As long as we're on the topic of little known, fast, econo-ish cars, I'd do just about anything for a Spirit R/T in good condition.

lol i see your point i've never even seen or heard of that before...this sucks i need this car gone to move to a SPICEY!!!

Some people see my car and think it's a Civic..........my heart hurts when I hear that. But one way I look at it, if people don't know what it is exactly when they see it, it must be unique enough to not be common, which IMO, is good.

well everyone that i talk to assumes my car is the msp, and i have to correct them that it is a mp3 with a turbo kit. then they have a puzzled look

ya i could def see this the MP3's were even more rare then the MSP

I've heard nice civic, evo, and wrx before. Being badge less doesn't help much either though. It is like 1 in 10 people know what they are. I've met an owner before that doesn't even really know what it is.

I actuall would be interested in your car to add to my driveway, but it's just a bit aout of my price range right now. Good luck, used very descriptive terms in your ads, make sure to point out that it is limited production, that all the modifications are OEM and therefore warrantied (haha). But seriously, most people don't want to buy a modded car, so make sure they know yours isn't. Also get comparisons from autotrader and eBay (although I think only one has sold on eBay - for cheap to someone here, it was sunlight silver) get the reviews from the magazines etc. It takes a lot of marketing to sell cars these days, especially with the MPS3 coming out in the next six months or so.

Good Luck!

whats sad, is sometimes people come up to me, and say dude, this is the best riced out protege i've seen yet...no really, it looks good, ....

I get the same thing ''im like i just bought a car ''... what kind ... '''03 mazdaspeed protege''..... oh a protege wtf im faster then that.... ''do you even know what mazdaspeed is?''.... no i dont care its a protege...... '''ok throw down then!''... no....

ive had this convo at least 20 times.... with acura and honda owners...

Back when I was stock, people thought i bought the wing, wheels, turbo, etc and put it on the car. I kept telling everyone everything was factory installed and they would have a really confused look on their face. And then they would ask, "What year? I never heard of a mazdaspeed protege, is it new?"

Some dude on Ebay was selling a Progress Rear sway bar guess what his sway bar fit...

2001-2004 Mazda Protege/mp3/msp/p5

I had to break it to him that he sucked and looked like a scammer...

I think it is funny when u tell people you drive a Mazdaspeed Protege there like so you drive a protege ? and im like yes buy a MAZDASPEED protege and then there like so a protege.
