My dealer's service manager was admiring my turbo emblem, pinstripes and chrome foglight strips and when it came to my blue metal valve stem caps on my wheels he said uh oh.....that's not good. I said why? He said he's seen a lot of problems because of the metal on metal and sounds like it ruins the stem. Told me to look for ones with plastic inside the metal.....have not found them at the local parts store yet....but I liked my blue stem caps...darn! Just thought I'd share the info.

I have heard of the problem being the metal valve stem caps seize to the valve stem. I have them & I use a little anti-seize compound on the inside of the cap. This solves the problem. Just thought I would share this as well.

I had a set on my pickup, and yes they did sieze on there. I was lucky enough to get them off with a pair of pliers and no further damage. As suggested in the last post, a drop of anti-sieze would most likely prevent this. They do look kinda cool.

They shouldn't sieze on you if you check you tires regularly. I check mine ever time I change the oil.

theyll sieze real fast. 2 tires on my 04 accord coupe ruined because of them. DONT USE THEM - especially if u live in cold weather

Are you talking about a curtin kind? I've always used the chromed caps you get from Walmart and I've never had then lock up on me.

i dunno - i bought mine from autozone. I check my psi all the time, especially in new england where our winter right now is like 65deg, then 30 then 55 then 20.

When i had my accord for 2 winters, i checked just as regularly, and the thought never came to my head that it was the metal on metal for why it would take a wrench for me to get the caps off sometimes - till i brought my car in for service one day and the tech filled me in on what had happened. Then got 2 flats - they couldnt get the cap off so they ripped the valve stem.

i dunno what kinds they were but all i know is avoid metal on metal in colder weather or even hot who knows its just a bad idea (unless the cap is filled on the inside w/rubber or something)

Well I bet weather has a lot to do with it. I'm way down in TX and WAY WAY up in New England. You use more salt and sand sand stuff in one winter then I'll ever see in my life time. It's been in the 60's at night and upper 70's during the day.

I had metal ones on my RX 8 and had no issues....it's garage kept. Well, I won't take any chances I guess. Anyone know of an auto store with metal ones with plastic threading?
