Nissan GT28 turbo on mazdaspeed?

oh ok, well if the price is right, it might be worth it. What is it advertised as? gt28r or t28?

all the website i look up for the skyline turbo and the silvia turbo say its a t28 but is equilivant to the gt28r. but their have been several revisions to the turbo over the years.

yea im kindof running into the same issue. I want to find out for sure before i purchase it, if its not BB than i rather just spend the money on something else.

I would think there's some sort of code stamped on the turbo somewhere, since it's a factory installed Nissan part. And if you contact Nissan, they may be able to match the number to a particular model and thus you would know what particular turbo it was. May take a few calls to find someone knowledgeable enough...

if you want to read the numbers off the turbo clean it throughly then let it dry and take a white paint pen to he numbers. it makes them easier to read. i had to do this my self when i sold my stock s14 turbo to read the number for some 1.

Well a T28 and a gt28r are different, otherwise they would be called the same. MSP's have gt2554, which are ball bearing, verses a 95 talon which has a t25 journal bearing. I have seen what people post, and yes there are many flavors of t28 and gt28, but the difference is BB vs JB. I will look for pix of my BB gt28r when i got it new, if I can remember my photobucket password. I though there was a good write up on an old sr20 forum on turbos for nissan, i will find it

Since you guys seem to be dipping into the Nissan world maybe this can be of some use.

The T28, is a journal bearing turbo used on the S14 SR20DET and the pulsar GTI-R engines
The GT28R, is a ball bearing turbo used on the S15 SR20DET, it has a unique part# and is pretty rare to find, especially on craigs. The pop up in the 240 realm every now and again in the 240 forums, but fetch a pretty penny.
The GT28RS (Disco Potato), was a hybrid ball bearing turbo derived from the GT28R, made famous by the B15 Sentra that was used for the R&D.
The GT2871R is a step up from the RS offering more top end while adding a touch of lag. Most say that the .64 A/R is almost identical to the RS while the .86 A/R is noticeably laggier.

Hope this helps to alieve some confusion and protect you guys when shopping on craigs. FWIW, I owned a 240 for 6yrs and had already performed a S13 blacktop swap before there were how-to threads or it was the cool thing to do. I eventually sold it because the entire community went to hell and it just wasn't where I wanted to be.

^ Word. Most any Garrett T2 turbo can be used on the MSP / FSDE, with the proper oil supply / drain fittings, and adapters for compressor inlet & outlet when needed. Cheap, easy, stop ******* around with ball bearing snails ($$)....

hey if ur still thinking of pick up a turbo i still have mine i lowered the price if u need i have the part number i have it u can pm me or go to my sell thread the link to atp on thread is the exact one i have

why no ball bearing? you can EASILY find journal bearing stuff for half the price of ball bearing, and unless youre routinely autocrossing, that money could be spent much better elsewhere.
