cool. turn your iso down. Theres a lot of noise in the pictures and im gonna guess your iso is maybe turned up to 400-800+? get it down to 100 and your pics will come out more clear.

i was wondering how to fix that. every time i do a night shoot it comes out noisy. i turned the white balance down a little, and tried to fiddle with exposure, and tried to do it with the hids on and it came out terrible. so turn the iso down?

You may only have control of ISO in Manual mode. Or you may be able to take the camera out of Auto-ISO model and still use one of the preset scene modes. The ISO might be assigned to a button or it may be access via a menu. I would search the PDF manual for your camera to find the control capabilities of your camera and their associated procedures.

Also, changing white balance settings will have a dramatic effect on you night shots. I might set a customer WB point using a white piece paper that is fully exposed to the key light (the streetlight in this case). Search the PDF for this, too.

I just reviewed the camera's specs on Nikon website. This is a fine P&S for simple pictures, as you have shown with you images. Unfortunately, it was not designed with the intermediate consumer user in mind. If you are really interested in capturing life in 1's and 0's then I would seriously consider an upgrade.

When I bought my first digital camera I selected one specifically because it gave me manual control of aperture, ISO, and exposure. This was still a P&S camera, not an SLR. If you think you're interested head over to DPReview.com to see what they recommend that fits your budget.

i do want a better camera, but with school starting again i just cant. its not a priority when the one i have does what i need for now ya know?

I thought that you were supposed to use a high ISO setting for night/low light pictures so that you wouldn't have shots that were underexposed?

no. you might use a higher iso at night/evening/low light conditions when you are shooting without a tripod or sittable surface. That way theres less shake to the shot. But the lower the iso the better the quality of the picture(imo). i try to shoot at 100 (lowest my cameras go) for everything (unless im trying for an action shot which i just dont generally do)
