NGK Extended Reach Spark Plugs

ok, i know this is probably a dumb question, but what are extended reach spark plugs?

They are plugs that extend further into the cylinder, changing the flame-front properties. The extended reach plugs do not interfere with the piston at T.D.C. of the stroke, in fact the longer reach plugs promote a better, cleaner burn of the fuel mixture because of the location of the start of the flame spread at the center of the combustion chamber. This = MORE POWER!

Interesting. Patrick - what did you gap yours at? What does FP recc the gap be set at?

HiBoost - What do you gap yours at?

Depending on boost levels, for 8 psi we gap them at 0.35 and for 12 or above, 0.30.

Not to thread jack here but I've got some BKR7E-11s installed on my MSP now at .30 gap.. What's the disadvantage to running a sparkplug with the gap closed at .30 rather that .35?

Less chance of blowing out the spark when boost hits at higher PSI.

you better blow the spark than the piston!

or do you mean the other type of blow..like shutdown the ignition?

With a large gap, the spark is larger, therefore better combustion and smoother idle. As cylinder pressure increases, the spark is weaker and the engine may start to misfire.

Therefore you need to find out if you really need to go to 0.30 for 10 psi of boost. If the engine works good with a 0.35 gap, then leave it at that.

Keep in mind that with time and mileage the electrode wears out making a wider gap, so it is good to check the gap and the plugs every 5,000 miles to keep the engine in proper condition.

i have the spark plugs that came with the spool kits.. im not sure teh model #... i checked the yesterday and they are gapped to .28. Should i change these out? they still look fine, or shopuld i change the gap?

anyone? (poke)

Did you get them from your turbo kit supplier at that gap? If so, I'm guessing he tuned your system with that gap. You have the Wagner kit. I suggest giving him a call.

I got them from spool pre gapped before i order my wagner kit... How much would this effect my tuning.. I can always make some adjustments in my tuning if neccesary..

The wagner kit doesnt include plugs, and i wanted colder ones so i grab them from spool. Looking for other opinions..all seems well how they are, Im just curious for when i change them what i should gap them at.
