Next Generation Proteg???

Next Generation Proteg???

Hello all,

i'm new to this forum; well, i'm new to forums in general...

anyways, I was wondering if anybody knows anything about the next generation Proteg.

I've ordered an MS Protege, and was wondering whether or not I should hold off to see what's up and coming....

Thanks in advance

Personally....I would NOT wait...get the MS....as seeing as how FORD may have to much of a hand in the next Generation...and at least this gen is 99% japanese.

I agree....I think you have made a great decision in getting the Mazdaspeed and will enjoy it a lot.

That's like shopping for a computer and then deciding to wait to see what comes out next year. You have to just buy what you want when you want it. If you wait to see what comes out next, you will always be waiting.

Ben's got a point there. Kinda like looking at other women when you already have a awesome girlfriend. The grass will always be greener on the other side of the lawn.;)

No problem, Zoom. Well, the scuttlebutt is that they will royally f**k up...er..."Fordize"... the next generation of Protege.

Would you expect anything more from an American car company?

haha.......no.....American car sucks.......no offence to anyone who drives them though.........
anyway......So basically Ford is gonna take over Mazda productions next year ??

That's the rumor...

The deal for the next generation of Protege (Mazda 3, or whatever it is called) is this. Ford designed the new chassis for the next gen Focus, Mazda Protege and Volvo small car.

Mazda has taken said chassis and made its own refinements to it so that it will handle like a Mazda should. It won't be soft and sloppy like the Focus, it should handle like a stock Protege does now, if not better.

As for the engine, it will be an all Mazda design. Mazda will be making all small bore, four cylinder engines for the Ford Motor Group. The next gen Protege will probably get the 2.3 liter power plant out of the Mazda 6. If not, it will get a beefier 2.0 liter based off the current 2.0 liter motor, which is an all Mazda design.

So, yes, Ford has had a bigger hand in the new Protege than in the past, but Mazda is making their own refinements to improve on the Ford design.

However, the fate of the Focus is up in the air at Ford because of all the recalls they have had over the past few years since its release.

Look for the next Protege to come out sometime after the Mazda 6 is released this fall, and the RX-8 next spring.

Thanks, StuttersC!!

That's great news! It really is hard to beat those Japanese engines. And I'm glad to hear that the handling will be up to snuff, as well! :D

No problem...I've been doing a ton of research for something I've been working on, and this is a part of said research. It is also straight from the horse's mouth so to speak...

Yes but the real question is not whether the next protege will be designed by mazda, but whether it will be built by mazda in Japan. The problem with american cars is all of us lazy american workers who put them together.

Designing the car is half the battle. Building it in Japan is the other half.

I believe the next Protege will be built out of the same plant that is building the present Protege. Which is in Japan.

article i read today on edmunds.com says that the new mazda 6 will be built in the US.......ugh......and might be the new platform for the taurus.......ugh.......i wish bill gates (or someone else with enough money) would just buy mazda from ford and turn it loose.........that would be neat

The new platform for the Taurus is going to be based off of the next iteration midsize Volvo sedan. This much has been said in Consumer Reports and Road and Track. Whether or not they use Volvo's engine has not been confirmed though.

Speaking of engines, that Ford 3.0 Duratec is a piece of junk. Going to the NHSTA (Nat'l Hwy Safety/Trans Administration) website shows a triple digit length list of service bulletins and recalls for every single year and model that had that engine. Just last year they recalled all 2000 model year 3 liters for possible lock-up and failure.
