NEWS! Apex'i S-AFC II will work

you mind telling us more about this check valve? is it supposed to help prevent stalling? i'm curious to know what it's for.

The reason why the car stalls is not because it is running super rich, its because the BOV is basically a big vacuum leak when you take the end of. Until the BOV line has positive pressure, it is always open. The check valve prevents air from coming back in via the BOV, fixing the idle/stalling problems. This has worked for me on many many cars in which the owners claim "It will never work". Example: Eclipse/Talon turbo, Supra turbo, turbo Miata w/Saab BOV, My TII, Golf/Jetta/Passat 1.8T, and a few more(can't remember right now).

I talked to a guy today out at a place by me and he said that the best way to find out if it will work with our cars is to call them and ask for a wiring diagram for the unit to our ECU. If they provide your with one or can give you some details into it then there is no reason why it won't work. Just a thought, he said this as a recomendation before buying one,

I tried getting a Pin out for the ecu or even a wiring diagram from the dealer. They said they don't have what.

i had afc on my dsm and i loved it, it will do more than just give you 5hp, it will eliminate fule cut with bigger injectors :D if no one tests it out i'll try it out in a month or so

i'm pretty sure there is an ECU diagram floating around this forum somewhere....

Not just a pin out of our ECU, apexi should have an actual wire diragram of one of a SAFC hooked up to the ECU and should have the information on installing it with our ECU's. I was told that if they don't have this then they didn't try it, and it probably won't work on our cars. Bascially the shop told me they have to be able to give some specifics for hooking it up to a Mazda before I should even consider buying one and installing it.

They have a diagram for the Japenese FS engine. We cant use that wiring diagram because or ECU's are made by Ford. It really doesnt matter what our ECU pin out is like. Most Apexi wiring diagrams are for J-spec engines only. Now, that doesnt mean we cant use it, it just means we need to know what pins on our ECU to use. If the MAF sensor works ith it, then it will work. You can totally use an older SAFC for monitoring but not control. The volatage regulations are supposed to be wider on this model.

I just got off the phone with a APEXi dealer here in canada and he is under the impresion that it wont work on our cars but is not sure

I told him about the news I heard off of this board and he was surprised but had not tried it yet.

I wish it would work. the guy I spoke to said it would solve a lot of problems he has been having with F/I applications on our cars.

anyway.

I will post more if I find out.

anyone have a phone number for Apexi usa?

Here is the word guys,

I might not be the first to report this (to lazy to check thread), but I talked to a gentleman at APEXi by the name of Misauki (spelling?).

he informed me that there is no guarantee as they have not tested it on a mazda protege 2.0 fs-de.

so back to square one.

he recommended having a tunner shop do some testing on it (any volunteers spoolin, hiboost?????????????)

anyway. that is the latest info.

Ok I just spoke with APEXi. They said that there is no information at this time regarding the Protege/MSP and their Gen II S-AFC.

They have not begun any R&D or testing of any kind. However they do have in their posession one of each. (Protege/MSP) ANd they will release their findings no sooner than 6 onths from now!

Their application chart will include both cars and harnesses will be developed for insallation purposes.

We are in the process of getting the safc II and installing it on a protege5, I'll let you all know when it gets done.

thanks FC3's boy

that will be great. I am just N/A right now but it would be a great purchase for the addition of other mods (i.e. turbo)

plus I like toys............

Hopefully if it slows down in the shop I will be able to get it done in a week or so..
