Hey guys, I have owned my blue msp for about two weeks now and i just love it. Anyhow, I purchased my car at a mazdaspeed dealership in irving, texas which is about 200 miles from abilene. I was told when i purchased the car that i could have warranty work done at any mazda dealership.
About a week after I bought it, the radio went out. I drive to my local abilene mazda dealer and to my surprise, they tell me that they aren't allowed to touch my car because it is a "mazdaspeed" vehicle which is treated as a totally separate franchise from "mazda". So, I am pretty pissed off now, i go home and call up the mazda dealer in Irving and tell them my dilema. The sales manager at the dealership calls up mazda corporate as well as the local abilene dealersip to try and work things out. I mean, who really wants to drive 200 miles every time his/her car has some small warranty problem. i know i don't have the time to put up with that kind of b.s. This has been going on for about a week now, lots of talking back and forth, well, last night i get a phone call from the sales manager at the irving mazda dealer. he tells me that mazda corporate has sent down a letter to all of the mazda dealers, stating that it is ok for a 'Non" mazdaspeed dealer to do work on a "mazdaspeed vehicle" although it is preferred for the mazdaspeed owner to go to a certified mazdaspeed dealer it is still ok to get warranty work done at a regular mazda dealer. i will copy the e-mail in this thread. if you have any questions fire away, i don't know how clear i made things here. if you want the e-mail in your mail box so that you can print it out and show your mazda dealer, e-mail me at Rawlings4@cox.net glad i can help!

letter from mazda corporate

Recently there was a question regarding the ability to complete warranty repairs on a MAZDASPEED vehicle at non-MAZDASPEED vehicles. Below is a reprint of a the 2nd Quarter 2003 Warranty View Point Newsletter that is sent to dealers. This should clear up the questions on how to handle these customers.

It is the responsibility of every authorized Mazda dealer to perform warranty service on any MAZDASPEED vehicle under the terms and conditions of the vehicle warranty, regardless of where the vehicle was purchased. However, MAZDASPEED dealers are the primary source for maintenance and repair of MAZDASPEED vehicles. MAZDASPEED vehicle owners will be encouraged to return to their MAZDASPEED dealer for maintenance and repair.
Should a MAZDASPEED customer require repair work and they are not in close proximity to a MAZDASPEED dealer. A Mazda dealer who is not MAZDASPEED authorized may perform the repair with the following stipulations:
The servicing dealer MUST call Mazda's Technical Hotline (888-832-8477) for repair instructions.
Hotline will transfer the dealer's phone call to the Dealer Assistance Group (DAG) to order repair parts.
Warranty service should be completed promptly to eliminate any inconvenience to the owner. The dealership must assess whether the repair is covered under warranty and if so under what terms.

If you have any other questions, please contact me.

Thank you,

Now thats what I call a kick ass first post. No bulls*** about how someone in a Yugo beat the crap out of an MSP.

I have the blue also....sweet choice dude....and again nice info!

Welcome to the forum!

Isn't it rediculous that they will try to avoid touching your car at all costs. It's the freakin' stereo, it's not like it's even all that Mazdaspeed specific considering you were just asking them to drop in a new one. Yes the headunit is only in the MSP but it's not from another planet.

Anyway, good work on getting it resolved and making coorperate/MNA do something for the owners!

Enjoy the new MSP

:)

Yes!!! I welcome Melody to the forum with open arms and a cold (actually about 45 degrees) beer. (cheers)

Well at least we have it in writing now, but I have take my mazdaspeed and had it serviced at a regular dealer, just had them call Mazda NA.

But good job, because some have posted that the regular dealer will not touch the speeds.
