Hello All!

Based in Somerset in the UK.

Just got my hands on a 2004 RX-8 with 32k miles. Only had it one day and i adore it already! The noise is infectious...

Have read up as much as i can but wondered if anyone had any top tips that i'd benefit from. Am aware of the problems with cold starting etc... I just want to look after my ride the best i can and have as much fun as possible in the process.

Photos soon... :)

Cheers in advance,

Kench

Rx-Kench,

Reading about the 8 is a great start. There is another forum dedicated strictly to the 8 and there is a ton of good info there too. Here are a few things to get you on your way.

-Oil is one of the key issues with this car, and there are so many opinions that you could read up on them for months, so while you are doing that and developing your own opinion it is a good idea to check it regularly. This is particularly importance for you since you are getting use to the car. Until you get a feel for how often you will need to add oil, you should check every few hundred mi. This will allow you to get comfortable with the car without hurting anything.

-Let the car warm up, every time you drive it....Always. If you need to move it tem feet to wash it, go for a spin around the neighborhood and that should take care of that.

-Do not push the engine hard until it has reached full operating temp.

-Don't trust the OIL Pres gauge. It does not measure oil pressure with any accuracy. If you wait for the pres to drop before you add oil, you will be waaaaaaaaay to late.

-Always carry at least 1 qt of whatever oil you are going to use (5-30 Pennzoil platinum for me) in the trunk. This way you can add the oil when it is needed whether or not it is sold where ever you are when you check and realize it needs oil. This will save a ton of hassle for you and stop you from adding oil that is not as good as you may like out of necessity.

-Find a local RX8 or rotary enthusiasts club and go to a few meetings. You can learn more in one evening at a meeting that you will in months of reading. Bring your questions and ask the guys/gals. We all share you addiction and are usually more than happy to help with advice and even a hand in most circumstances.

-Enjoy your unique automobile.

Cheers guys.

Went on holiday for a week so haven't had a chance to drive the car properly yet but loving it already!

Watch this space... :)
