Newbie Questions!! Sorry:(

I am wondering if anyone has dynoed the JDM and Mazdaspeed cam combo yet. I am expecting around 12-15 whp. I had the jdm cam on my Probe and experienced about 10 whp so I would hope that combo would work well.

Anyway just looking for info.

Also I was kinda disappointed to find a dyno forthen P5. 96whp (yawn) Not to impressive. I drove on the other day and they didn't feel like 96hp but numbers just don't lie.

Anyone have the 1320' time on stock 5sp P5?
Well Driven

People have seen about a 7whp gain from the cam combo. as for the 96 whp dyno it varies I have seen stock dynos from 96 up to 105 just depends on what dyno is being used and the conditions.

Thats it!!

I saw more than that from the jspec cam on my probe!

I have fallen in love with the Mazdaspeed Protege anyway! Just read the article in SCC. I am afraid now af availibility. We'll just have to see.

True the Probe FS motor is the same motor but it is also a different beast all together. The Probe is tuned differently than the protege and it has a distributor as ours don't we have DIS. With proper tuning the cams could see a 15-20 hp gain but we dont' have that access with the stock ECU. I probably got about a 12 whp gain on teh top end with my cam gear but my low end is crap and it probably won't get much better. The Mazdaspeed is goign to be a cool car if I was going to spend that much though I woudl buy a 97 240SX and do a SR20DET swap but thats me!

I understand its a different ecu but that large difference in gains seems odd to me.

As far as the SR20DET 240SX... Great car but a little harder to finance!

Not really i knwo where i can pick up a 90 240 for 800 bucks right now and the motor for 1800 so 2600 bucks and i have a 13 second car. But anyways...the difference in teh gains lies in the ECU the probes do not have the same intake manifold we have ours flow mroe but we have a much richer fuel map than they do. They have a leaner fuel map and get more potential out of the cams. Get a adjustable FPR and drop your base fuel pressure to lean your mixture and we will see like gains.

You could also get a Turbo II with a rebuilt engine for that similar pre-3k price and with a little tuning have a 13 second car, and it would be ROTARY POWER!!(hump) (hump)

Ok thanks for the input on the turbo II but this thread is about cams.

As for leanin out the fuel mixture... the intake manifolds seem exactly identical to me. As for the ECU... I have no way to know. If I buy this car I am not messing with that stuff. Too much trouble with the Probe messin with that s*** trying to findn 3 hp and ended up almost destroying the motor.

The intake manifold is completly different yours the probe si single runners the Protege is VICS dual runner intake.
