Hi folks,

I'm about to jump into the Mazda world once again. Had a RX4 wagon years ago and now I like the 3 five door. Maybe some of you can help me out. Only the top of the line 3 comes with HID's. Is it possible to buy the OEM HID set and easily install it on a 3S? I promised myself that my next car have xeon's just because!
Thanks in advance... (rei)

where do you live? the hid's are packaged with the luxury options yes, but i thought you could just get its specific package with out having to get the rest...

looking through the mazda site, (which was slow as s***...???) looks like they re-did their option packages and the hid's are only available on the gt model which starts at 19k... though a base model gt is pretty nice... leather, climate control, side air bags, abs, tpms, hids..... not a bad bundle and for a couple hundred you can upgrade to the 6 disk 7 speaker bose stereo if you wanted... i bet you could get that for less then 20k... but it does appear that the hid's are packaged with the gt model only... and i don't think you can purchase the oem hid's... though you could go aftermarket, they are 250$$ or so but a bit of a pain... if you aren't a diy'r i would just get the gt base model...

actually you dont have to be a DIY kinda person (tsunami is from maine.....enough said). I am not much of a DIY and putting the HIDs on the car was not really at all difficult. Not more difficult that changing your bulb in your headlight. Thats all it really took, everything else is plug and play so the only other thing you have to do is find a nice dry spot to place the ballast and you are all set.
I love mine.

Thanks for the replys. Sorry for my late appearance. I'm in the LA area. Looks like my best bet is to just bite the bullet and buy the top-of-the-line style. That's one thing that irritates me about buying Japanese cars. There is no "option" package. It's take it or leave it kind of tactic. What'ya do...?

Apparently it's illegal in Ca to have an HID conversion kit. But if you decide to go the halogen route, HID conversion kits are a cheap upgrade; very good too as long as you get good brand bulbs.

I asked the dealer, and only the GT model had the xenons, and I didnt want a moonroof or a 6disc so that was too much for me, you can buy kits from xenonexpert.com for under 300 bucks. As far as being illegal, aim them properly and I seriously doubt you will ever have a problem.
