Newbie needs help for intake manifold removal

No problem. This is where any knowledge I have ends. I've never pulled a motor or head so I don't know. I'd let a mechanic do it. If you have the means to, you can try it yourself. Just look into how to do it and what steps to take. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

any advice to remove the screw? they seem awfully soft and tight

never mind, a pair of plyers worked fine.

pulling the cylinder head isnt bad at all. take off your intake manifold, timing belt, water pump, exhaust manifold, coolant lines, water box on the side of the head etc...who am i kidding it is a bit of work lol, but if you take your time its not a bad job at all. keep in mind you'll need a new head gasket, intake manifold gasket, antifreeze, exhaust manifold gasket, water box gasket, thermostat housing gaset and its a good time to upgrade to arp head studs.

Remove the bottom half and really look - it may be wedged ;)

Then borescope each cylinder. You must find it. Pull the first cat and look at its inlet - is it there?

At least use a flexible magnet to fish down in your lower intake and your cylinders for the pieces.

I personally wouldn't trust using just a magnet...I would pull the head just incase. Not worth chancing having to rebuild. May cost a couple hundred in gaskets and fluids but its cheaper than a rebuild. If your lucky there isn't damage

The screws might be in the cyl or on the screen of the first cat but the butterfly itself is in the intake lower half, it cannot fit past VTCS and into the head.

that's what I thought but found a screw and only a half of a buttefly valve in the lower half...

just a thought: would it be ok to drive the P5 with no VICS?

That's why I said "at least". It's better to pull the head, but it's also a lot more work, and the risk tradeoff might not be worth it to the OP.

VICS...no. VTCS near the head....yes. VICS maintains torque by routing intake air via a longer or shorter route thru intake depending on rpm. Sux that the ones that are actually useful are the ones failing. The VTCS are used for about 10 seconds during initial startup for less emissions and then are just in the way of airflow and a noise maker. (if you haven't removed them).

heres an update: put back the intake mani with new screws from recall gasket kit. One butterfly valve missing (cyl #4). Used a magnetic pickup tool to check in each cylinder and found 2 pieces. Put everything back in it's place and started the engine.

However, coins in the dryer sound is gone but there's a new noise. never heard anything like that before. clack clack clack. not random, it has a regular beat. Can record it later but gotta charge the battery first. any ideas?

Quick question, what is the best way to access the lower two bolts on the intake manifold? I am having a heck of a time fitting my fat hands in to get them out...
