newbie audio ques

i work good with engines and suspension and what not..but im still a newbie to the audio side..so anyways
I searched the forum for deck install deck removal but i couldnt find any older threads..so ill just ask and get pummeled here =\
Anyways, how the hell do you remove the deck?
Which side do you approach it from?
I tried removing the aluminum trim around it, but it has so many screws and bolts, and it seems some of them cant be reached. Anyone have a step by step with pics maybe? Thanks everyone.
anda step by step install maybe?
im taking out my kenwood eXcelon x817 for a brand new Pioneer premier DEH-P940MP...

I have a site for you....just ONE tiny problem.....I don't have the page saved in my favorites here at home....SO, unless someone points you there or to another one between now (10 p.m. CST) and tomorrow morning when I get to work....I have the link saved there....I will post it then.

I watched the dealership service tech take mine out and put it back.

The little plastic trim pieces on either side of the radio pop off - He used a pointed scribe to get under them and pull the forward.

Then he inserted 4 U-shaped "pulls" into the 4 holes on each side, and pulled the radio out. Pushing the round ends of the "pulls" onto the 8 holes releases the catches which hold the radio in the dash and it just slides out.

Hope this helps,

Don

some of this is pretty helpful..but
I have a kenwood eXcelon deck in there right now..how do i get it out? LoL...
the trim doesnt come out all the way because the actual ac vents and stuff are attached by hella screws, so i cant get a good look in...i think i need some of those weird shaped screwdrivers lol

I have taken my HU out for Amp installs and whatnot so i may be able to help.
1) look underneith the dash above the gas pedel there is a white thing with a wire on it, pull the wire off. (it is your AC control)
2) pull the Glove Box out and once again find another white arm... looks similar to the other one, you should be able to to see it when you pull the Glove Box out. and take the wire off of that. 3)then Pull the trim pannel around the hu out(unhooking hazards and a wire cluster behind the AC) this should have the panel hanging but will give you room to work.
4) basically from here you should be able to just pull the HU out from behind... I just pushed minethe kit only snaps in so it should just pop out. then unhook the wire harness and pull the HU out. It worked for me, give it a shot and let me know.

well just as I figured...eepr5 beat me to the link...but that is cool....check out that site the guy put up a lot of good pictures of getting it all apart.

as far as which head unit you got....it shouldn't really make any difference...for even if its not the stock factory unit, if it was installed with the CORRECT adapter it locks into the dash the same way that the stockers do....thus requireing the same tools to remove it.
