Hi my name is Leslie and I just bought my first Mazda and am new to this forum. Its not the first car I have done but I do have a question. Im wanting to do a Carbon Fiber hood it will be my first carbon fiber hood is this something you can leave on all year? Or would the weather get to it? I will take my rims of during the winter but was not sure if I have to take that off as well?

It's personal preference. Some people leave them on all year whereas others (like myself) remove them for the winter months. I do it moreso to prevent chips from the salt being kicked up during my daily commute.

in all honesty summer is actually harder on it with the uv rays haha well it depends on the quality of the product,i run my all year alot friends do as well like ctt3p5 said its just personal preference

THANKS GUYS! I want to get a good quality hood they way I look at it and from past experience you get what you pay for. Does carbon chip easy or something? Im a highway driver and get rocks thrown on my car almost everyday! *sigh

Its supposed to be much stonger than steal equivalent as far as dents etc, but its only as good as the coating thats over it...

from a site I found:

"There are a few things you can do to help preserve the beautiful finish of your carbon fiber hood for years to come. Carbon fiber is at great risk for oxidation and Ultra Violet light damage. Without wax or sealant, there is very little to protect the gel coat over the carbon fabric.

We generally recommend using only a wax if you detail very regularly (usually every two weeks or so). The sealant is so much more durable and you can always layer a wax on top of it if desired. The Menzerna FMJ and the Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 are also very good sealants. The Jetseal 109 is probably the most durable sealant. If you want even stronger protection and a deeper reflection I would layer a wax on top of the sealant. For carbon fiber we would probably recommend either the Blue Velvet or Purple Haze. The Dodo Juice waxes have been some of the most durable waxes we have used. They help make darker colors look extra glossy! "

I know youll bash me for this..but If I had a carbon fiber hood Id have it painted the body color ;-)

I just dont think I could have it painted to match the Pink I love the carbon look its so beautiful lol yea I said beautiful. Thanks for the info I might have to look into that The Dodo Juice wax.. I have never had the guts to wax cars myself. Watching my dad when I was a little girl he always was so careful and wouldnt let me touch his 1960 mustangs. lol It took him all day and now im scared of waxing haha :/

hahah..waxing makes it really shine..if you dont your paint can be burnt off over 10 years...you cant hurt if you hand wax it, if you use an electric buffing pad you can burn through the paint if you leave it one spot and done move it...it will keep your paint on your car a lot longer and protect it....

I understand your dads logic with his mustang (a 67gt500 elanore is my dream car), back (a friggin decade ago) I was a mustang dork to say the least...dorky shoes and my pants cut off to high...oh the year 2000...where did you go.

LOL that waxing stuff is speaking spanish to me lol. I loved his mustangs he had two of them a red and a yellow one. I think we have all had our dorky days lol. My very first car was a pontiac bonneville and I took some pictures with it and I had some dorky outfits myself. haha and I refuse to post them you all would have a good laugh tho.

went to prom im a 92 white bonneville and my dad still has a 96 or 98..not sure..its the winter green one...so no worries.

odd universe we live in....i also had a pontiac 6000 (88) as my first car...it was gray (not silver) with a gray interior...it was very good at shopping cart hockey and accidentally knocking over mailboxes while learning to change cd's while driving at the age of 16.

I just dont think I could have it painted to match the Pink
Pink? Pics or it's a lie! But if you have black wheels on this supposed pink 3 I bet it looks pretty sweet. As far as carbon fiber goes I would think that it could be clear-coated. Then you would have even more UV and stone chip protection and it could be re-cleared as needed to keep it looking good.

My friend had a Spec-V with a CF hood/trunk. Left it on all year long.
It did oxidize, but he didn't have a chance to re-clear it.
Just make sure, with all CF hoods, to get hood pins. My friend made the mistake of not having them.
For the longest time, it was actually okay, but it's better to get them earlier before having the hood fly into your windshield.

Good luck with your CF hood.....but like hat says,.,,,post pics or it didnt happen ;-) Otherwise we shall think your a older man that weighs about 4 bills tricking all the people online because you secretly drive a F150.

NOT about lies ppl. If you would go into my profile you would see that here soon when I get them money saved up im getting it painted pink! =) Right now im waiting for my wheels that I purchased on the 16th to get here but Wheelsnext.com is playing me which im getting pretty ticked about! Just go into my profile and read it, it will tell you all my future plans. This will be my 3rd pink car I already have a picture posted of my saturn and I will go take a picture of my facebook to show you my blazer I two toned. But anyways CF hood is my next thng to get and a lowering kit because im sure the 18's I ordered will make it look higher. Also thnks guys for the info on the hood.

No offense Leslie. FYI the pinktext is to show sarcasm.. Obviously you didn't know that and I appologize. I am looking forward to see your car in pink, it will no doubt be unique and with black wheels it is going to look awesome.

Ah gotcha sorry. I guess since im new and a FEMALE im ready to hold my own lol. I was prepared for the worst and for you all to pick on me haha. but i posted more pictures in my profile so you yall know im not fake nor am i lying =)

lol... we werent calling you a liar...standard procedure online when someone says something you want to see a picture of you say "pics or it didnt happen"....ya hippie ;-)

LOL... KK I know i need to post pictures of my mazda I just have not felt the need since it looks stock. All i have done is window tint and two 12" kenwood subs I have bought the rims already but still waiting and they are the ones in my avatar pic. My 3 is a 2005 and its the same blue as fam's.
