03 protege5
Ok so I bought myself a 03 pro5 and love it, thinking about doing some basic mods and had a few questions. I've searched a lot and got a lot of answers to my questions, just have a few more. I want to do a few bolt on items, I'm starting to collect parts for the 1.8 coil conversion. What I really want to know and I did search, what is the 626 manifold swap and what is needed and how helpfull it is? Also besides these things and i/h/e what could I do for basic stuff? Thanks in advance and even links to threads that could help answer will be much appreciated, no problem with reading and learning.

The stock ignition is fine. Spend the $ elsewhere.

First do the I/H/E amd maybe a under drive pulley. If you have a manny tranny - get the ECU flashed to the MP3 specs. After that - it gets expensive ;(

I removed the VTCS from my manifold so i could keep the VICS (2 stage intake that helps low end performace that you lose with the 626 manifold). The 626 manifold helps the turbo perform better.

If you still have money (what is your budget?) let us know. Also - if you post in the protege5 forum - you will get more responses - this is for the sedans.

I wasn't sure about the ignition but everything I was reading and why some where doing it was the misfires and studdering. And I think it looks good and is different then anyother pro5 around me. I have a k&n right now, will a cai make a lot of difference or is what I got decent enough?

I had a SRI on my 03 P5 and it made a world of diff. stock I was topping out at 115
after just the SRI I topped out well over that not to mention the sound and seamed to rev quicker. the MP3 flash or swap is another great mod that you will deff. notice.

It does, but it is beyond worth it. The MP3 ECU smoothes out the power delivery and will gain you a lil bit of a power increase.

Yeah don't read too much into that 1.8 ignition conversion. The stock ignition is the last thing that needs replaced. Get yourself an intake or lower it.

New springs and struts can be had for around $5-600.

Im gonna say it's worth more to get that then an intake. and $150 ( I think) for the reflash is cheaper then any intake system.

Simota Twin Charger CAI = $149.90 lol

Get the ECU flash, the only hurdle to cover is the VTCS butterflies in the intake. The MP3 didn't have them, but the P5 does. They'll have to be removed.

i would have to agree... the stock ignition is fine...
my friend that i got my turbo system from was using the stock ignition setup with no problems... i'm using the stock ignition although with magnacore wires

but if your going for "different" then by all means its your cash...

if i was still N/A i would go with the MP3 ecu like others have suggested

No, very little gain changing to cAI.
No gain from coils - just replace. I assume you checked plugs and wires already...

Do a seafoam[tm] treatment for the motor (we get gunky as we run pig-rich at WOT (wrc) )

Do a header and or exhaust. Or the MP3 reflash (if you have a manual tranny). Don't worry about the VTCS - you just don't use it. No CEL will be generated (MP3 didn't have it)...

Sorry, haven't checked this in awhile, budget is within reason, if I want something ill save till I get it lol. Been looking into a kl swap possibly and go from there. Suspension bits are actually going to be where I'm gonna go first unless I can find everything for the swap soon.
