New Tyres Better Ride and Less Noisy

I was so annoyed when I first drive my new SP23 (GT) as it was so noisy on the highway and the suspension seem to make a lot of noise. I had it checked at the first service and was told that ALL Mazda3s were noisy. Not mine anymore. I changed the tyres (tires).. I put 18"x7" TSW wheels with 225/40x18 Sumitomo HRTZII..the difference is remarkabale. No noise, smoother ride (despite the ultra low profile), and greater handling prowess. The car has been tranformed it is beautiful to drive...so much for much more expensive Bridgestone standard fare. RED SP23

red sp23.... the mazda6 has two engine options the 2.3l (what we have in the mazda3 s') and the 3.0 (i believe?) V6. it is the mazda6 s engine option. as the 3 has the 2.0 or the 2.3.... does this help? (btw i have driven the V6 and they are hella fun!!)

And extending tsunami's post, the Mazda6 V6 is exclusive to N. America, that's why RED SP23 is unfamiliar about it.

That is totally hot! - 2 questions for the newb here....
1. WHat is SP?
2. Is it possible to get the right hand drives here in the US?? -

1. SP23 is the Ozzie 5-door sport model. In '05, there is an SP23 package available in the US on the Sedan only.
2. Only if you import it from somewhere else on your own.

Looks awesome. I plan to get 18" rims with 225/40/18 tires also but I don't plan to lower my car. Thanks for giving me a preview of what bigger rims will look like on stock suspension.

RedRaptor, If you can get 7.5" or 8" rims do so, the 18x7" rims on my Red Sp23 are just too skinny!!
I pinched them from my wife's Honda Accord Euro (US Acura TSX). They do look great but I have been told that they are now discontinued in the TSW range of wheels. I wanted to fit SIMMONS 18" wheels, with a polished alloy rim (3 piece wheels used extensively in racing cars in OZ) and a black centre but these were very expensive and "..she who must be obeyed.." was not spending that sort of money. Check out this site, I know that Simmons exports to the US.

Then click on FR18 for closer look. Cheers RED SP23

can anyone photochop that and make the car orange? I like white wheels, I'm just not sure if they would look good on an orange 3!

REDSP23,

I got 18" x 8" RX8 rims for the summer. I'm a little worried that 8" might be too wide and will rub on stock suspension but from what you are telling me, it should be fine.

The only problem with discontinued rims is finding a replacement, should you hit a pothole (knock on wood (lol2) ) but other than that your car looks pimp.

How did you decide on the tire? I'm looking at high peformance all season like the Kumho ASZ and Falken ZE-512 right now. Any advice?

I chose Sumitomo HTRZ II basically because they were the best compromise on handling wear and price. The Bridgestones on the standard 17" were atrocious in terms of noise. The Sumitomos are bigger, handle better and are far quieter.

Kuhmos are fantastic. My son competed in the "Chance of a Lifetime " series and had KUHMOS fitted to the Daewoo Lanos. This tyre took enormous punishment ..apparently it could handle some 1000 laps of Wakefield Park (near Goulburn, near Canberra) before they were completely tired. he said they made that Korean car grip quite well. They were Kuhmos MX I think.

I used to run FALKENS and had no trouble with them on a Audi Turbo (18x8 rims with 225/45x18) They were really good in the wet but a bit squirmy in the dry. I also am very happy with the Goodyear Eagles that I ran for
60 000kms (yes 37500 miles)on a VW Passat Turbo (what a great car that was). The Eagles were fantastic in the wet.

I'll be checking the Kuhmos out for next time. Regards RED SP23
