new tuning option?

I received an email awhile ago to beta-test this but I didn't call. Today I received an email saying that it's now shipping, and it clams "+68 HP and +38 TQ." I'd love to see the dyno...but I don't think I would believe it.

Called Hypertech for a bit of info and got a "this is proprietary info" before I could get a word out! Shawn then loosened up a bit and said he would past my request along to the "Chief Engineer" after Shawn stated they didn't usually change the max boost levels to which I stated that their dynograph sure showed a pretty good jump in HP for not touching the boost. That was 3 hours ago and have not heard back from Hypertech.

Well, my talk with Hypertech's engineer went like this...

"What AFR does the program run at WOT/max boost/"-------"Depends"

"You're product description says you remove the WOT restriction..do you remove it 100% or partially"---------"Can't answer...confidential"

"Your Tech Rep states you usually don't up the boost to gain HP on your products"-------"He is incorrect"

The fellow said less than 10 words the whole conversation and just hung up when I said "Thanks". I have talked to AEM for example about their stand alone product on my EVO and DSM cars and they had no qualms about answering any and all questions about tune parameters..granted I was the one programming the box but it is not like I can glean "secret" info from Hypertech's program in the form of one small piece of info and utilize it in anyway that is going to injure Hypertech's business.

"It's Confidential???!!!" Ugh, hello moron, if you want someone to plug this thing into their car thats bs. Sounds shady to me. It reminds me of Banks Programmers and Bully Dogg chips that guys with turbo diesel trucks buy. Gains of like 100 hp by clicking a button that says "Extreme Setting". The fine print probably reads "don't use this too much or you'll explode". I wouldn't buy any product if the people that are making it can't even give you a straightforward answer.

This product would certainly be better received if they cleared up things a bit..one site says "50 state approved" and another says "Not legal in CA". With the economy is the crapper, I would think their customer service would be more attuned to convincing customers to drop about half a G note on their product. I couldn't even get a straight answer as to what octane number they used to define Premium gas..91 or 93 ! For a company that only has a total of 22 employees or so, you'd think the guy answering the Tech line would have a better handle on his product. Online instructions from their site, tells you to disconnect satelite receiver box AND pull radio fuse...I asked if just keeping system turned off would do since when I checked amperage flow at battery ground with the key off and on and no accessories on I saw no flow (if I opened the door so the dome light went on I did see a small bump in amp flow), I got a "do what you want" answer. I assume they test their product on real MS3's..can't they individualize instructions a bit since getting to the satellite box to disconnect its connector is a pain. I suppose they are covering people with aftermarket systems that power up with the key ON even though the radio is OFF.

I'm picking nits with them now I suppose but that's the way I get when a company seems put off by a potential customer asking basic questions about their product.

Here is a fixed tune programmer that gives results supposedly that blow Cobb's AP( their tune selections, not custom tunes) away on a "stock" MS3 and they don't expect a little friendly questioning ?

I look forward to the brave of heart with disponible cash for the Hypertech and a follow up dyno to give some real time confirmation of what the engine is being put through.

I beta tested it for them.

their whp/tq ratings were done at 6500 rpms. But, it does fix alot of issues the speed3/6 have. Gets rid of the 0-60 mph throttle restrictions, Boost cut goes up, boost goes up to 17-19 psi, you can raise your rev limit, you can raise your top speed. Also you can read and clear your DTC's. My AFR's are now about 10.5 ish and it screams in the lower gears. Totally worth the money IMO.

I work for a shop and i am willing to give a deal to forum members.

Also, just turn your radio off. I left all my fuses intact when i did it. No harm, no foul. As for the octane, i run 93 but they have told me that 91 is ok as well. It should be 50 state legal, but don't hold me to that. But, I can tell you that there is no way to tell that you have it. You could remove it before you have to take it for inspection though ;)

Thanks for data...Hypertech's customer service was unable to supply any. I emailed you about your price BTW.

I have not heard if it will or will not. I will email my hypertech rep and ask him if they have done any testing on one. All i have seen on fitment is what i listed up there.

And as for the CX-7 guy, they have not tested it on it, but he is looking into it. I'll post any responses that i receive from them.

Here’s what I found out.

The CX-7 does use the same 2.3L direct injected engine that the Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 use, but it has a slightly smaller turbocharger. The factory tuning is much different between the vehicles, so our tuning won’t work easily. We will have to develop another tune specifically for the CX-7. We have it on our “To Do” list, but I don’t know how soon we’ll be able to get to it.

Have the customer put in a product request on the website.

that is from hypertech. Here is the link to the request page: http://www.hypertech.com/requests.php

We have a couple of the beta units here at the shop if anyone wants them.

BTW, you can only adjust revlimit up 400rpm, and speed limiter up 16mph

Not on the non beta. You can adjust rev limit up 500 rpm and the limiter up according to tire rating.
