Okay, so I made the mistake of listening to some Kicker SS components a couple months ago and, well here we are... This is the SS56.2 (5-1/4")set and a pair of SSMB8 midbass' I'm not really sure if the 8's are gonna fit in-door. they're fine depth-wise just REALLY large. which'll be dope if I can manage to squeeze them in (and don't think I won't try) But ifnot, I've also got a set of 6-1/2's as backup. then the 8's can be used for a friend's underseat sub project.

COOL! I jsut realised that the components come with 5x7 plates.. I might toss 'em in the doors too anxious to wait for my slowass to make new kicks...

At anyrate, mostly I'm prety damn giddy. The quad 4's are still in existance, and they're actually going to be finished, then put in the g/f's car. Actually, I just madeup some pretty cool tweeter mounting rings at school (machinist school). Everyhting is to such a tight tolerance, that it all pressfits, no need for clamps or whathaveyou. it actually almost took a hammer to get 'em back out after test fitting the first time around. Prolly about a solid day's worth of lathework for the pair. cost effective, no, but when you've got the stuff at youre disposal, and are way ahead in class, it's a perfect plaything.

those are some sweet sounding components. i listened to some at spring break nationals and was quite impressed. when they first brought kicker to CC, they offered the SS comps for like $250 to employees. too bad my friend quit there a few weeks before that, otherwise i would have picked up a set or 2 for future installs.

Yea, accomodations are nice...
It's strange When I first saw kicker components I thought "what a joke, how could Kicker make a decent sounding set of speakers?" But then I heard ppl talking about 'em, and eventually got a chance to hear a set against some of my other favorites on a level field. I started listening to them planning to not like them, but wound up quite impressed.

Andyea, very shallow on the 8's which is why I thought I'd try them out. It's really looking like it'll be difficult to make them work without some major modifications and fabrication, though which means I'll likely just use the 6's The actual 5's are pretty deep. Kinda strange they've got a press-on rubber endcap on them that prettymuch only seems to serve to make them deeper, and look neat I spose.

Eitherway, I've prettymuch decided I'm gonna toss 'em in the doors. Prolly do that tonight. I've already got wires run, etc, and, hell they even came with plates, so prettymuch, whynot, eH?

that's what i was thinking when i first listened to kicker comps. i was quite impressed with their lower lines as well. excellent sounding tweeters on all that i've heard.

My problem is deciding between the Focal K2's or Boston Z's now. Although the JL ZRs and Polks new high end stuff will be on the floor shortly.

To bad tweete never carried those kickers.

Are those the 6.5"s or 8"s in the pictures? Without hearing them I am impressed. I've had my Eclipses for almost 5 years now...I think its about time for new speakers...My right channel keeps cutting in and out...I have no idea why but if I turn up the volume it starts working again. Anyway, these components will be on my list of ones to listen to.

the 8's are in the pic. the 6's are much closer to the 5-1/4's in size, but with an even shallower magnet.. I've prettymuch decided now that the 8's aren't gonna fit very easily, and hell, I've gotthe 6's which should be plenty. I was getting windowseal flutter with my vifa 7's anyway. So the 8's are going to be used for under-seat subs in a couple of my friends' utility-first scoobys. I'll postup how that one worksout if/when that comes around.

Andyes, these things are DAMN nice. Kinda an oddity, but I guess the crossover point's prettylow, somethinglike 2.5khz... I floorboard-listened with some tshirts crumpledup around them, and wow. I'm gonna be a happy camper. Wish I could spread some hookup love to deserving sorts, but you're limited to 1 per year on kicker toys.

1sty. I likes me some K2p's, I think head to head with boston's, I'd pick them PLUS they're a tad cheaper than Z's yes? unfortunately niether of them ar ebrands we get to paly with at my mom'n pop shop. However I think I'd lean towards the Bostons simply for longevity sake. I've heard more than a couple failure stories 'bout focal. all of which are backedup by excellent service, but still we all know how that one goes... speakers in your car sound MUCH better than ones being repaired. (or not made yet for that matter ;) )

Oh, and BTW, my previously mentioned "other favorites" means Boston pro's, Z's and Focal K2p's. Along with whatever JL it was that I liked at the time. all those similar R's and such I can't keep track. and no worthwhile JL dealer around me so I don't have the exposure to keepup.

Still don't have 'em in the doors yet, I might just wait and MAKE myself make some kicks for these bastards... It'll be easier now that I've decided to go with the smaller midbass' and won't have to worry about hacking up the doors right as well.

Okay, so I've got other nes speakertoys aswell. I'm not gonna ge tinto it agian, but since elemental sucks ass, CDT stepped up to the plate and took care of me. Sold me a pair of 5" HD mids for just a tad more than shipping. VERY generous. and I've got to say that they sound 100x better than the ed crap ever did. whoknows if I had just a bad pair or what, but WOW. the cdt's are nice, damn nice... I've bene running with them quasi-kick mounted and very impressed. I hope they don't outshine the kickers, but it's entirely possible. Hopefully work'll be slow tomorrow so I can throw them both in the board and give them a decent head to head.
