New to the Mazda family

:
2002 P5 Wag
Just totalled my truck (7 vehicle pileup....I drew lucky number 6..... damn...) New years eve heading to pick up my kiddos from the ex's house.

With that - the guy that rear ended my truck had NO INSURANCE!!!! And being that it was a 2001 with over 300k miles.....it was paid off, and practically worthless, in terms of money.

So - it's a wash. No money from insurance - they're persuing him - and I got a chance to do something Iv'e wanted to do for awhile. Get a new vehicle!!!!

So - I picked up a 2002 P5 for 2,200 bucks from a buddy of mine and I must say.....it's nicer than my truck was!

I joined tonight to find out hte tricks of the trade, the do's and the don'ts with this lil car, and also.....the "hop-ups". I've raced mini's for years, and hondas/acuras aren't any stranger to my eyes. I'm looking forward to more std. displacement than a honda - and more power eventually.

Thanks for allowing me to join! Ya'll have a fine evening!

Awesome. Post up some pics.

Im all for upping the suspension on this car first. The handling on these are amazing.

If you need anything just PM me.

Cheap pricing on a dropped and smoothed ride would be a nice starter....lol!

looking at picking up a set of MB Racing "Weapon" wheels for cheap. Anyone got a set they wanna part with?

Then ofcourse - I'll be dropping it with a "monetarily savvy" kit. Hopefully it doesn't eat the bank up too badly.....

damn, shiny p5 right there, if your going to do performance upgrades a turbo is a MUST, naturally aspirated gives gains like s***, I tried with my p5 and the best youll get with 1k worth of mods is about 10 horsepower at the crank, when you can get about 30 with a stock mazdaspeed protege turbo kit at the same price, although you sacrifice a little bit of reliabilitly. if you want serious power, then deff get forged internals. its also great for peace of mind that you wont blow the engine as you would with stock internals. as stated, suspension components are also a must, even though the car handles like a mothafukin bosssss stock it can always be better (for comparison, the mazdaspeed protege did better in the slolum then the BMW M3 in 2003 when they came out) one thing i ALWAYS loved about mazda, is they put handling in the sport perspective, as did my mom when she purchased a 2010 mazda 3, she loves it because of the handling

I've NEVER put a turbo on a car that wasn't originally a turbo car - without doing the necessary legwork of building the lower end (at the very least!).

Hell.....I had a '94 SHO Taurus when I was in San Diego (Navy...) - ended up going with a shop out there called Group5 Motorsports. They somehow sold, installed, and helped me understand - a twin turbo setup with GT35R's and a solid engine rebuild. That thing abso-fkn-lutely screamed!

Then Hondas......meh. I've done a few of those and they don't even really excite me anymore. This has potential though, as a possible family hauler, stuff hauler, and could outrun loads of unsuspecting "victims".

Who makes a very streetable, very reliable, very COST conscious drop kit that can take the car down 1-2" and still not break the bank......or my kidneys?

edit: found a set of Weapons, but this kat wanted 900 for the wheels and tires.....and they're Yoko tires ...... I declined and am still looking for those wheels (I absolutely loved how they looked in that wheel thread ya'll got).

edit: to make a sweet deal - I have a 1962 Harley bobber for sale...lol.

i got megan coilovers for $850 and very happy with them and totally worth the price imo.

to append to this thread:

as of today - I paid for and picked up my wheels/tires. ToroWheels TR1007's in 17x7 and a set of tires for under 800 bucks! Next.....suspension. I'm subbing another thread on this board for those Stagg SHS struts, and was wondering - would a set of coilover sleeves work with them? I'm wanting about 3.5" of drop total....I like em low!

Besides - the KL-ZE is torn apart, and I'm awaiting parts for my end-of-year swap.......oh yeah - I bought a motor from a totalled MX-6, and will be putting that engine in my p5 around october (...$400 and all I had to do was go to his house and pick the parts I wanted......great deal!)

pics of said wheels/tires I got for helllllla cheap:

I think my boy agrees:
