new to mazda's need some help with brakes change.

im a bmw junkie, i do all the work i can handle on my Hartge tunned e28 M5. so i said yes when my buddy asked me to help him change his brake pads. i dug up the mazda service manual grabbed some tools and had at it.

the front pads where a breeze to change, it wan nice to only have one piston to depress on the caliper sooo much easer then 4. The rears are a trip, What on earth is this SST tool, and how do you get the rear piston to depress?????

i tried to compress the piston, without the right tool i only accomplished turning the piston an could not depress it, anyone else here have any input? any place to get this SST tool?

and whats up with the ebrake actuated on the inside brake pad??

LOL... It is strange. The tool is hard to find, the dealership is what I suggest. I was able to use needle nose pliers and Push/Spin at the same time clock wise. Took a while to cause the threads have to catch. A real PITA

Push like your life depends on it while turning clockwise. On my first attempt at changing my pads I made the mistake of turning ccw and the piston came out of its rubber seal. I spent almost 2 hours trying to get it back in only to have my brother come and do it in 5 minutes.

I used something like this and had to press really hard with a 3/8" ratchet... it works and it's gonna take a lot of muscle. If it doesn't work, try to screw it the opposite way to get it stick out then push it back in.

There's one side that will fit the 2 circle, I went to autozone to rent the tool and they don't have the size for the 3.

I too had trouble with my brakes and found this thread...

I was able to modify that dice tool that i bought from kragen. I had to file down one of the sides to get it to fit but it did. After many unsuccessful tries with the ratchet, I used an electric drill and applied as much force as I could onto the piston while it was turning and that did the trick. You really do have to use a ton of force to get that thing to move or else it will just turn and turn without going any further in.

Humph, there goes me ever changing my own brake pads. lol
If you can furnish your own oil, then why not your own brake pads?
