1993 Mazda MX6 LS
Hi, i just bought a 1993 MX6 LS. This is my first Mazda, having come from a Honda and domestic background i'm really confused here. Love this car but its now an eyesore in my driveway after a week of ownership.

First off, when i test drove the car, it ran a lil rough at first. after warming up it ran great. Two days later i bought the car and it ran great for 3 days. During a heavy rain i drove the car to a store and it started running rough then shut off. i restarted it and it would idle but would shut off if i tried to give it gas. After returning to the car 30 mins later it started up and i was able to drive it. Although still running rough i made it a few miles down the road and it shut off again. This time it wouldnt restart. I called a towtruck and had it brought back home.

Since it has been back in my drive way ive read lots of threads on here to try and figure out what the problem may be. Although extremely informative i still have yet to nail down whats causing it. So far i have used a jumper on the diagnostic port to test the green fuel pump relay, Pulled a plug wire and used the old screwdriver in the plugwire method to test for spark and ive checked all the fuses. when i turn the key im not hearing the fuel pump run and without the jumper in place the green relay makes no sound. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Thanks

Does the car crank? Will it run at all?

Check the pink 30A fuse under the hood. Check that you are getting spark out to each plug. (Distributors in the early Mx6/Probe/626 are prone to failure). You might not hear the fuel pump all of the time..I didn't usually hear mine in my Probe, until I put the big Walbro one in..

Otherwise, you can also check the crank position sensor (down by the crank pulley). Check the resistance of it.

What made you decide to do that? Did you check spark and such and see you were not getting any at the disty end of the wires?

Read on MX6.com that these 93 94 mx6s were notorious about bad distys, took a chance and ordered it. it came in yesterday and i installed it. Car cranked right up but ran a lil rough. i changed the plugs and wires and now it runs better than ever. A new problem started up at that time. everytime i turn on my lights i blow the 15A tailight fuse under the hood. so now i have no dash or tail lights. as soon as this damn rain down here stops ill start tracking down this issue. if anyone has any suggestions id love to hear them. thanks.....

Generally that is the problem with these, I was haunted by the same thing once my KLZE swap was done. Turned out to be a bad disty.
