new tires advice

I have managed to get 35K out of my stock turanza's even though they were showing some serious wear around 20K-25K.

Now with winter coming here in MA, I need to get some new shoes on my cx-7.

I have narrowed it down to 2 on tirerack,

The Kumho Road Venture APT KL51 ($103)

OR

Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge ($147)

Keep in mind that I'm probably going to turn my car in when the lease is up this june '08, so should I go the cheap way out, what if I keep it?

The gas milage is killing me on the cx-7, I get about 325 miles on a tank during the summer but when it gets cold it DROPS to like 275 miles?

I don't warm the car up either like some folks do for like10-15 min.

Thanks,

Mike

well - I dunno. Since you're not investing in the car long-term, that's up to you. I just dropped a little over $1k into new sneakers for mine. Got the Nokians. I am waiting to find-out this winter if the difference is noticeable or not. For that kind of money, I HOPE so. I have read and heard many good things about them.

I am ALSO in Massachusetts and I drive a lot up into VT and ME in the winter and hope to get better traction than the stock tires. They kinda sucked-a** for me last year.

Good luck on your quest.

check out the Nitto 420s tires. I think they are like $125-135 but look at discounttiresdotcom. My question is what size to get. The 235's are hard to find....I am actually looking on here to see if I can put 255's on my CX-7.

Feel happy about the 325 on a tank of gas. I haven't seen more than 275 on a tank since they did the turbo upgrade. I went from an average of 18 or 19 mpg to 16-17.....very frustrating!

2 Questions:

How did you get so many miles out of the Turanzas when everybody else is getting less than 20K out of a set?

Second... The cheapest I can get the Eagle Response Tires is 179 installed and that is a good price compared to other discount quotes I have been getting. How did you find them so cheap, or is it extra for install and balancing?

My Teranzas' look to go 30,000 + miles. Your decision would be easy but, you tossed in a big variable i.e. are you going to keep the vehicle or trade? That decision is the important question that only you can answer.

i just bought the Michelin MXV4 Pilot in 255/55 18 and love them. we just got 10 inches dumped on us here and they've done great. Anything was better than the goodyear crap that my "baby' came with.

I'm in the same boat- had Goodyear RSA & lasted barely 20k. Have a 15 months left on the lease & ended going with Hankook. I was going to purchase Bridgestone 245s from tirerack.com that were much cheaper but was told by a local store that mileage would drop with wider tire. I can't afford worse mileage so went with the Hankooks on a whim.
Anybody using 89 or 87 octane?
