Well, I starting a project I put off too long. Time to build up the real system of the car. Time to make the music handle as well as the car:) I am looking to build a new subbox, mount a new amp to power all the speakers, clean up all the wiring throughout the car (power, ground, capicator, and speaker wires), and install component speakers in the front.

The overall goal is to make it look good, sound great, and not sacrifice performance of my P5.

I'll try to take pictures of everything I can.

Aren't you sacrificing performance by adding all the weight of the system as well as the power drain?

In any case, good luck I'd like to see how you do compared to your previous car's audio projects!

There will be no weight gain here. Actually switching this box compared to my current box will be a weight reduction. I'll weight both to let you know the difference.

As for power drain, shouldn't be too much difference. There is a good reason for having a capacitor. Cap = less alternator strain = Free Up HP

Remind me never to ask you to do math :-P

I'm just givin ya a hard time. I'd love to see how this works out. Hell might even partially qualify as a performance mod lol

I am going sealed, because of space. NOt because of sound quality. I rather build a ported box and release the potential of the sub. But 2.2 cu ft of space in my truck was NOT an option.

i like the sound of sealed better. i know a ported box is louder, but sealed is a much tighter, cleaner sound. cant wait to hear it at the rally (assuming it wil be completed by then). hopefully ill have my project complete by then. first though, i need the weather to comply. laying fiberglass is hard to do in 30 degree weather (yupnope)

A properly tuned ported box will sound just as good as a sealed box, but much louder. The key part of a ported box is making sure it is TUNED correctly. Most poeple buy the prefab boxes and never cut the port tubes to the correct length for their box. That is why they sound like crap.

Sealed boxes are very forgiving and take next to nothing for space too.

Yeah, looking forward to see your enclosure too. I'll pray also for warmer weather to get this done in time too.

i was speaking in terms of a typical ported box as most people know dick about tuning a ported box, they just buy it and shove it in their car. sealed definitely has the best plug and play cpability, but youre right, a PROPERLY tuned ported box will POUND and sound great. the problem is, i have yet to hear one :(

No the box will not be bungeed this time. I plan on my using the actual hold down points in the corners of the hatch. Not sure how I am going to do that, but I will figure it out.

you could use a couple 'L' brackets and bolt it into the floor piece that covers the spare tire (dunno)
