Took off the extension, shifting is better, tighter now (no more rubber coupling under the shift knob).

Like the new look...What do you think?

I think it looks perfect with the interior. Just be carful to to over CF. It can go from great to crap in only a few acessories!

I'm not a fan of Carbon Fiber. (notcool) But it looks clean. And if I liked carbon fiber I'm sure I would like it.

I know what you mean by over doing the CF thing.
I would have prefered a piano black top, instead of the CF insert on the knob. But the shape and size is perfect.

Looks great love the boot. Hey GizmozP5, how'd you take of the extension? You mean the one on the stock shifter right? I wanted to do that a couple months ago (to my 2002.5) but didn't know how to do it. If this is what you did then how'd you get the knob to stay on and was it threaded? Details, man, I need details. ;) Thanks!

Coqui258-Yes it's off center...feel better that way, while shifting.

Clownphish- Yes it's the one on the stock shifter. I found out how to do it, on another forum (you have to thank "RiceWagon" for this one).

1) Remove the center console trim, it should just pop out.
2) Remove the shift knob and un-hook the shifter boot.
3) you will need a large pipe wrench or a set of vise-grips, a heat gun or a small propane torch( make sure the flame is very low)
4) Start heating the silver colored extension piece for about 3-5 minutes. (Open your windows and open your sunroof if you have one, it'll smell like burnt rubber for a while if you don't do this.
5) Once heated put the wrench on the extension and move the transmission into 4th gear make sure you hold onto the black part of the shifter to keep from twisting it the gears. A couple good tugs on the wrench will break it free.
6) once the extension is off you will have to clean some rubber off of the end of the shifter. I heated it slightly and used a very sharp chisel to scrape off the rubber.
7) you can put the boot and center console back in now all you will need now is a new shifter knob, there will be no threads left, just get one with the allen screws to tighten it on.

Thanks GizmozP5! I'll have to check it out but the fiance is urging me to just get a short throw now, argh. :( Thanks a lot though!!!

clowphish- Your fiance is urging you to mod your car!!! She's cool, way cool: . You can start by removing the extension, doesn't cost a thing. Then if it's not enough...go for the B&M.

why you say B&M over say the kartboy? I am not bashing your or anything just want to hear your opinion.

I like the fact that the B&M has it's own bushing, like the craftmanship of the shifter. Once had a B&M Z-Gate in my old Pontiac, and loved that shifter. But the other ones are probably as good.
