new ride

Depends on what you are looking for first appearance or performance and how much your willing to spend at first and progress from there. I would say go with an intake for performance. Appearance get your windows tinted. Look around the forums there are a lot of information out there to get the bang for your buck.

Search is your best option. Let me help you a bit though.

For engine performance choose from the following:

intake, bypass valve , test pipe

Misc / Nice to have mods:

short shifter, shifter bushings, motor mount, springs, sway bars

Any of those will be easy to install / remove and a good place to start.

Agreed ... A new intake would be a great bang for your buck. A motor mount or motor mount inserts and shifter bushings are both inexpensive, easy to install, and make a noticeable improvement to the feel of the car. Congrats on the new ride

just installed a short shifter and bushings the other day. i like it a lot. next cheap thing on my list will be a by pass valve :)

Welcome to the forum !
Beware of the search Nazi's !!!

Motor mount inserts made a nice difference in the car. Shifter bushings take away the rubbery feel of the shifter, so it feels a little more mechanical, or some people say better connected to the car. So you'll have to decide about what kind of shifter feel you're looking for. I would check with your dealer before installing any kind of intake. It seems some dealers are more strict about non-mazda performance parts. Some people dont have any problems with warranty work & others have nothing but problems. A lot of people get wider/lighter rims & tires first. Ultimately you'll have to decide where you want to begin, and where you want to go with mods. Then you'll find a lot of useful information on this forum.

Without a doubt the first 3 you should do are: CAI or SR intake, Upgraded motor mount, and SS shifter and/or bushings.
