New racing seats!!

After a recent thread on the Miata forum I checked out the Konig V-Racing site. Their seats are on clearance, evidently they were copying Cobra seats and are now getting out of the seat business. After some research on the web I decided to take a chance and order the Rush seat in blue. It's supposed to be a copy of the Cobra Monaco seat. If so, Konig is using Cobras harness guides. The seat looks like the Monaco, and the Forza without some of its wear patches.

I placed the order Monday, they arrived today from New York. After unpacking the seat I thought it looked decent.

Out came the tools and I pulled the stock seat.
Then I set the seat in the car. Another shot just sitting in the car.
I grabbed some 2" wide, 1/8" thick steel from Ace Hardware, the only thing close, and made some adaptor plates. The plates are about 2" square because I had to make up some space between the mount hole on the seat and the seat track. After cutting the plates, doing some trial fitting and a little guessing, I ended up with the adaptor working pretty well to make up the space. So I now have the Miata seat track on the racing seat.

I got the seat installed in the car. The fit between the seat and the door panel is a little tight. With the seat all the way back it does hit the Hard Core roll bar. There is some room on the outside of the seat and a little on the inside of the seat. I may slot the holes a little and move the seat inward slightly.

They look decent from the back and the front.

No comments yet on comfort, I've only sat in them for fit and to get the harness adjusted. I think I gained a slight bit of headroom, but not a significant amount. If I mounted the seat on 1/8" steel and bolted that steel to the floor, I'd gain about 1", maybe 1 1/2".

My overall investment is $197 for the seats (with shipping) and $10 for steel and hardware.

I was curious about the fit compared to the Forza. The seat itself fits like the Forza, without the extra pad in the bottom. I don't think the shoulder wings are as wide, but probably just 1" overall. I sat in Aflac's car with his Forza on Corbeau sliders. I hit my head on the hardtop. I put the top up and got in mine, about the same room as with the stock seat.

Hopefully this info will help those of you looking at seats like I've been doing for years. If anyone has questions, let me know!!

All photos can be seen here and you can grab them in 800x600 size if you want.

Here's the seat in the car...

yea looks good, i like how you gave us a fun story with fun links too (sun). seats will probably be in a few more months for myself so this is helpful, good price too makes me tempted lol. i still got a couple more weeks to finish my body or id snatch some of those up for myself.

very nice...I just got a Momo Start mounted in the Pro5 and you don't want to see what I did to get it mounted. Lots or drilling, sawing, grinding. I'll have a better way of doing it when I'm ready to install the passenger seat.

Holy crap! Those are screaming deals on racing seats! Are they TUV certified, or anything like that? Looks good, BTW.

if only they had em in a color that went with my car grrrrr. i would buy 2 right now

Laguna-I love the color and the seat looks great in your car. :)

We just picked up a pair of used Corbeau Forza GT seats for the Miata now that it is going STS2. They are pretty comfy and a lot more secure than the stock seats, plus they are black so they don't stand out too much.

Thanks everyone! I would have prefered all black, but for the price it was blue, yellow or red. I don't think they have many left, so jump on them if you want a set.

The seats have a FIA stamp on them, but the date is older so I doubt they are FIA legal. I only autocross, so its not a big deal. There does seem to be a sheet of steel on inside the back, so its not just tubes and pads.

I just wanted to know if these were actual racing seats, and would hold up in a crash, or if they were show seats, and would kill me and anybody sitting behind me if we got in a wreck on the street! I would guess the FIA stamp is probably good enough!

seriously, you should grab them. I know you wanted my seats bad, but things just couldn't work out at the time. We know everything happens for a reason... here is your reason lol. Go for it!

Which thread on the Miata forum did you read about these on? I searched over there, found your install thread, but could not find any other good discussion.
Thanks

Those are more of a show seat. And there on the heavy side for a seat. Look good though, remind me of the sparco speed or sprint seat.
On another note. I dont know if anyone has corbeau racing seats? i heard they have a bottom mount bracket at a good price that works with most racing seats? I have a sparco carbon fiber roadster seat that im going to install come spring but dont really want to custom it (due to safety reasons) so if anyone has these or seen them used on other seats post away

The seat is a copy of the Cobra Monaco. Konig says that these are actually made by Cobra. There is a FIA stamp on the seats, but the date is old. I wouldn't say they are any more of a show seat than the Corbeau Forza. BTW, the Forza lost its FIA approval.

The Corbeau bracket RAISES the seat above the Mazda bracket, so you'll not get any lower in the car using their brackets than you do with the stock seat.

Someone had posted a link in a thread about the Cobra Roadster 7 seats, take a look on the Miata forum for that. I think that I'm the first one to take the plunge and buy these seats.
