New project car... my Bucket o' Fail == PICS ADDED

Here it is, my brand new project car, a 1993 MX-6 with a KLDE 2.5 V6, 5 speed, and 150k miles. I already tore the ski rack off the top..... It already has lowering springs, but the back is sagging and I want the front lower, so I will probably swap them out. Costs almost nothing. The best part is, except for the windshield and an axle, all the parts that need replacing are in the trunk (clutch, flywheel, brakes for all 4 corners, strut mount, etc).

Well, it also has a door pannel falling off, the only key hole that works is on the passenger door, a headunit and equalizer who have bit the dust, all my speakers are blown except for 2 awful tweeters, 2 subs and an amp that may or may not work, bubbling purple tint, and needs a paint job every badly. For now, I call it my "Bucket o' Fail."

Short term plans are to get it running, inspected, and autocross with it. Long term plans are to either boost it, buy a japanese KLZE motor (200hp instead of my now 160hp), or build a motor for safer boosting.

I will get pics up later tonight or tomorrow

Nice car but you sure you want to invest in it? 150K is a lot and last thing you want is a black hole sucking your money just to keep it running.

Are you smoking crack or something? 150k is not a lot for that year! I do agree with the money pit comment.

eh to each his own. Newer cars are generally a lot more complicated to fix and parts are more exspensive for the most part.

I need something to work on. I realized the MS3 can't be a project car because I need a reliable DD with a warranty. If nothing else I will fix the things that need fixing -- like I said, most of the parts are in the trunk -- and sell when finished.

So is it the best financial decision ever? no. getting a car for $200 I can work on is good for me though. If I don't have something to work on I will go crazy

Maybe that's why the back is sagging? lol....

Oh and

Girlfriend.

It doesnt look that bad to me, and It doesnt sound like it has anything seriously wrong with it...have fun...I agree 150,000 isnt that much either...well maybe for a chrysler or something but not a mazda.(potkettle

I have a pretty sweet mx6 with ''only'' 165k on it ;)

I'll post up pics when I get back to CT, cars at the shop down there finally passing emissions (hopefully!)

150k isnt too bad for a 93 (my 93 has 195,500)

Besides, I'm getting a complete running engine (same 2.5 V6 KLDE in the car right now) for $75 plus freight shipping. Do a rebuild (for peformance if I so choose) and have a fresh motor, essentially 0 miles :) It's a beautfiul thing!

Update:
The car is still sitting and is still a pile of trash. However, I got some Ksport coilovers in the mail for $500, and need to buy a new flywheel and both front axles. When I've done that and the weather warms up some, the teardown will start.

ksports are junk, just warning you.

when getting a flywheel just go with OEM MX3 V6 one.

front axles are cheap enough, i need to replace mine soon though, i thankfully have them under warrentee.

k sports arent total junk. Ebay coilovers are s***, i have them on my car and hate them.

Good luck with the project, boost will cost a lot of money and be a pain in the ass but at least it will be fast.
