OK guys, as promised here are the specs on the new valve springs!
Installed height = 1.48"
Installed Press. = 52 lbs.
Open Height = 1.02"
Max Lift = .450"
Open Pressure = 145 lbs.
Coil Bind = .960"
Now the advertised installed pressure seems a bit low (since stock is 39-44), but this was done to allow use with the stock cam and NA. With a minimal shim on the seat (as we are doing)we have 70 lbs. installed pressure which should work great with the JDM intake cam, repinned exh cam (US intake cam), and better valves for the turbo.
For those who asked what the advantages are of upgraded valves and springs.
Regarding the valves, better alloys allow a lighter valve. This provides benefits in opening rate and RPM limits. Also, when using an undercut stem that is swirl polished it significantly improves air/fuel flow. Finally, improved alloys help prevent the problems associated with broken stems and valve heads (otherwise known as disaster).
Regarding the springs, of course the new design allows for higher lift cams, improved seat pressure (to keep in all that boost)and better control of the valve to prevent the valve from slamming into the seat on the way down (for longer life on the valve and seat). Also, they feature a special alloy that improves the life of the spring (Just imagine how much heat is generated in the coils of the spring going up and down thousands of time per minute for hours on end!)
We should be testing the whole set up soon. Waiting (as usual) for final parts to arrive. Once tested and we are happy with the performance we will have them available. Also, I should have pricing (at least on the springs)in the next few days.
Any further questions, please feel free to ask!
Thanks,
Tom
