?????New P5?????

Kay this is the latest news I got from a Mazda insider. This is what the new P5 will look like in the near future. Possibly next year or so. Looks cool and all but it gonna be 99%FORD.............Platform,Engine. The only thing that is Mazda is the Emblems........Personally, it looks cool but, with Quality and reliablity. Ford made doesn't cut it!!!!!!

Looks like a Pontiac Vibe....not sure if I actually believe the validity of this pic....

It's been posted before. I think it was in the rumors section (and I'm not talking about the post today). I can't remember what the verdict was on that one.

Also calling into question the validity is the fact that Mazda does four year cycles of their cars. This would put the next redesign of the Protege platform in the 2005 model year.

If Ford makes the next MP5, I'm switching back to Honda's :'(

I read somewhere that the next Volvo's (Ford owns Volvo's car dept.) will be made using the Focus chassis...:wtf:

So, basically, Ford will f***-up all the cars it will touch. I don't get it, not a business wise decision, period.

Not only does it NOT look as good as our P5, but it will be a FRIGGIN FORD?! GRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I like the new look. What do you guys expect? GM owns just about everything out there. Ford just owns the majority of the shares in Mazda, that's why they have influence.

Glad I bought mine now. I am take my Japanese made P5 over a rebadged ford any day. I do like the slick lines of the new concept car but I think the current design looks tougher.

i gotta agree :D

i'm glad i was able to purchase the current model rather than drive a "shared" ford platform car.

i introduce the toyota voltz!

...known in the US as the pontiac vibe

Mazda isn't owned by anyone. Ford has major stock in Mazda, to the tune of about 33%. They have a lot of influence over Mazda, but not total control.

BTW - in 99% of all these "partnerships" between American and Japanese makers, it's the AMERICAN cars that get the Japanese parts, not the other way around. Maybe someone from overseas can verify this - but I don't think I have EVER heard of a Japanese car maker installing an AMERICAN engine - maybe unless it was a small-block Chevy, or some other big-cube motor. Why would the Japanese companies lower the quality of their products, while raising the cost of production on small car engines?

Just because the car posted (and who knows what the hell it really is anyway) is rumored to be "all Ford" means nothing - American makers have never been able to design and build cars - especially SMALL engines - as well as the Japanese. They build these nice little 4-bangers that run forever and are cheap to make.

Trust me - I'd lay money that any "shared" Ford/Mazda platform will have plenty of Mazda where it counts most.

^of course the "inside" will still remain mazda...but what irks me is the outside.

as we all know, ford, mazda and volvo are developing a re-engineered platform for 2004, which will be shared.(ford focus, protege/mazda3 and volvo 40)

imo, i just don't like this whole "sharing" business...but thats just me though

I can understand that - but the truth remains that there is no such thing as an American, Japanese, German, etc. car anymore.

Every automaker is partenered with others, and they all share platforms and parts. It's been this way for well over 20 years - and it's not going to stop.

Personally - I couldn't really care less. As long as the cars I own are well built, I don't care who makes 'em or shares 'em.

*sigh* oh so true! :'(

btw, morning hihoslva! (good afternoon there) :D

i remember you were one of the first p5 owner to have a custom stereo install here!

i'm working on mine right now.

Really? Was I really one of the first? I dunno about that.....

However, I did get my P5 fairly early on (June 2001) so I guess I could be one of the early "go-getters".

Oh - and it's about 15 minutes till noon, so good morning is still appropriate!

Do you all know how strong the Ford Focus platform is? It was designed around the rally cars. The new focus was designed to be very durable for rally racing. So there is really no room to bash the Focus' platform. It's a well engineered car.
