2002 Mazda Protege 5
Just purchased a 2002 P5 and have to say I love the car. It is going to need some work and such but for the price I got it at can't complain. Going to be a great car for school and driving.

Plus I love Mazda's been driving the old family 92 MPV for years now and had to say goodbye and hello to the P5.

Will post up pics once I get my camera back.

I am going to enjoy posting in this forum.

Welcome to the forums. Make sure you introduce yourself to the locals as well.

Welcome aboard....more details and pics? Auto/Manual, is it stock, do you plan on mods, etc? (if not then RUN now!) haha

It is an Auto. And all stock except for the radio Has a good number of miles, but was cheap so, being a student that helps. Any other details you like?

I hope to mod it someday. School is the primary budgest right now but would like to do mods to it. What mods did you all start with and any suggestions on where to start?

Also if anyone goes to sport car races or is involved with SCCA hit me up, If you will be at the 12 hours of Sebring or go to Road America let me know, since I work corners.

Also does anyone do any meet ups in the Chicago area?

Welcome to the forum! If you want to meet more locals post here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=95
We're lucky to live by chicago since one of the largest, if not the largest, protege parts vendor is here. If you need parts, aftermarket or stock, contact Ken at protegegarage and he will help you. He is a very good guy to work with. Enjoy the forum and remember to look around because there is a lot of good information here. As far as parts go you can go the power route or the suspension route. And everyone can attest to the suspension route being much better for these cars.

Thanks everyone. And as for Ken I have already talked to him about a few parts. Nice to see more people from the area. And with seeing what people have done with their cars, I feel like I am going to need some work just to be presence of some of these worked on cars.

Well thanks again. Also could you elaborate on why the suspension is better then the power for these cars?

The protege5 and all proteges in general are VERY good on curvy roads. There stock suspension is set up better then most cars in there class, but with a few mods you will be in sti/bmw handling class (stuff like antirollbar, struts, springs, tires). These cars take very good to any suspension mods. But as far as power mods this is a bad car for people who only like drag racing. The FS-DE engine is pretty bad to make high horsepower, and you don't get a lot of hp for your $$$. The cheapest and most often way to make more power is to go turbo. But brings on its own problems.
