New p5, need reciever installation help

Hey, new to the forums, new to mazda. I got my '02 p5 last week and to my dismay its stock reciever wont even play burnt cds, and doesnt work very well with itrip either. So, im gonna move my sony fcx-7700 from my explorer to the mazda, with ipod via line in. Ive never installed myself before, other than going from aftermarket back to stock (which is unbelievably easy). What tool do i need/how do i remove the stock reciever, and can i use the bracket kit that held my sony into the sony's double-din enclosure. Should the power adapters be the same too, what do i need?

First off, Welcome to the forums, Nowthen, as far as your questions, many many many ppl will bark atyou for simply asking a common question. If it seems like somethign that might've been asked before, doa search, and check the stickies at the top.

However, to answer you, The bracket for your 2din opening in your ford will likely not fit, you should look into getting one specific for the car (openings are close, but slightly different.) As far as removing the stock stereo, you'll need 2 sets of ford radio removal keys, pry the vertical side plastic pieces off of your radio, and you'll see the holes they need to go in. Put 2 in each side, and press them towards the outside and give it a tug, it's a fairly snug fit with the backstrap thing, so it will indeed take a good bit of pulling. If you cna't manage, just pop out the "md/tape" insert cover and use that for a handle to pull with. Tha harness you need is verymuch different and is listed in the link above. along witht he part number for the correct kit.

Thanks a bunch man, i got the stock radio out, and ur right the ford bracket did not fit, So i new mazda aftermarket bracket, did u say there was a part #, i dont see it. and also what adapter do i need to fit the reciever?

ok, i found everything i need locally, other than dash kit. would it be ok to just get a universa american internationall din pocket filler instead of a dash kit? would that not fit as well/look as nice?

the problem with universal din fillers isthat the actual size of the outer "trim ring" hole for our cars is smaller than most, you mgith be able to trim down a normal american din-pocket kit to fit, but it'll be kinda sketchy. Ask how long it'd take to get one, perhaps you can order one, and perhaps live with a hole for a little while?

Hey go to sounddomain.com and get the dash kit for your car, I just did that, It was under 20 bux shipped, your local wal mart may have it, its made by scorshe and wallies world carries that, MA1357 is the product number you will need I believe. It fits nice and looks pretty good, nothing spectacular. The guy at my local audio place advised me to stay away from ::universal:: kits, and he had them in stock, and didnt push them...must be hella bad to work with I assume.
