New Noises.. Please Help Me Diagnose!

For some who know, and many who don't, my car has had some problems.

When I bought the car, it was leaking oil. The cam and crank seals were replaced, timing belt and pulley, and a few misc items. The oil leak stopped, and was soon replaced by excessive oil burning. Dealershit charged me a few hundred for diagnosis, but told me since It was due to the owner of the car before me and not from the car's general wear I had to pay for everything. The burning was due to piston rings, and I was told that for the cost of replacing the pistons and several other parts that it was more cost effective to get a new engine.

Well, I don't have 1800 just laying around for a new engine or even a short block, and It's not in me to get another used engine that could be from some asshole like the one who had mine and run into the same problems again. So, I keep oil in it at full all the time, and drive it easy for a few months.

I felt that background might be important for my question. I was driving it home and pulling into my spot when I notice this obnoxiously loud high pitched noise coming from my engine. It seems to be coming from the right side of the block, but I have too many hoses to get a good look, and no garage to further inspect. I rode up the block, and didn't have any difference in drive ability. The noise continued through all gears and in neutral and didn't really change pitch.

My first day of college is tomorrow @ noon, and I don't know whether I should be driving it or not, but I need to. I really need help.

All this.. two days before my birthday. Happy birthday to me :(

damn man, sorry for all that...

mmm, what kind of high pitched noise???

squealing? whining? whirring? kerplucking? ...ok the last one i made up...lol

the more specific you can be, the more useful we can be!

like a whistle or a whine.. if it was kerplunking i'd be in even bigger trouble.. lol.

Im close to having the money for a shortblock/engine, but I still need cash to cover its installation.

Dude F#$@ the damnn Mazda stealership uhhhh.... just thinking about it pisses me off , well I have the same problem Oil burning, smoke and oil coming from the cam/crank seals.without the noise In my case im buying forge pistons and rods and just rebuilding the block. In your case I would do the same from what it sounds like might be engine knock. See your taking the motor apart anyway replacing piston rings might as well replace your internals while your in there.

Hope this helps sorry to hear that man i feel your pain.

After a little snooping, im pretty sure it isnt actually coming from the block itself. Engine knock would change the way it drove, and it drives just the same.

Thinking the fan clutch may have gone bad, because the whirring is more of a spinning noise, things in motion. Also changes noises when I change levels on the A/C.

I don't have the funds to make a better block, just to replace what it should have. Otherwise, I would.

Your lucky to be in the same state as crossover auto, the only mazdaspeed-aware tuning garage I know about.

Seems now that after driving it a little today that its more of a whistle. It only makes noise when i'm off the gas. I'm going to be delving into the engine as soon as it cools down a bit. I'm thinking its air leak/pcv valve related. Only thing I really know that could make this noise. It also doesn't always happen, so its most likely a cracked rubber/plastic hose somewhere. Hopefully its something I can fix with JB weld, lol.

If anyone has had some experience with anything like this, I could use all the input I can get. Im pretty bummed at the inaction of these forums, but, I know its a busy time of the year, which makes it all the more inconvenient for it to happen now. Either way, Im probably getting a diagnostics test done tomorrow morning.

is the sound coming from the drive belts? How many miles on the car?

if you rev it does the whine get louder?

could be loose/damaged belts. Or maybe it is the alternator whinning.
