2003 Mazdaspeed protege
hi everyone, just purchased a 2003 mazdaspeed protege about 2 weeks ago. it's the awesome spicy orange colour. had to buy it out of desperation after crashing my eclipse but i can now say im glad i did! it's an awesome ride and would ideally like to do more to it. nothing track level but just enough to keep the pesky neighbourhood honda owners' mouths shut. any suggestions people? as it sits it's bone stock and i have a budget of 1000 from now till june. might do another 1000 if i can manage to scrap together some money after paying bills. so what mods give you the best bang for your buck?

welcome to the forum. Basic bolt ons like intake, exhaust, intercooler, something to tune with like the split second air/fuel controller, motor mounts will definitely change the car.

I vote ssafc and fmic

Edit: and a new watergate actuator....and replace the missing bolts on your exhaust manifold but don't do it to shut the hondas up.

As far as the intercooler goes, im definetly conaidering doing it. But i've heard/read that the front mount ones dont fit as easily as the side mounts. Any info? The ssafc does what exactly? And pricing for these two is...? The intake as well im considering buying, but would ideally like to find one for cheaper than brand new.. Those are like 250 around the area. Motor mounts i hear make a major difference as well, which ones do you guys recommend

Personally I'd mod it for reliability first. If it has the stock crappy plastic IC piping ditch those ASAP. The best best would be go FMIC which would also ditch teh heatsoak proned SMIC and the plastic crappy pipes

welcome and congratz. search the for sale forum here for most of your parts if u trying to keep cost down and yet still have what you want... for sidemounts.. you can buy inserts from AWR/Street Un/ CorkSport... good amount of difference. Also if you go FMIC more of an install and most kits i believe require a sri but there are alot of pipe routings out there.
