New MSP Owner (Possibly)

This will be my DD so I don't want to blow anything up, just wanting something that's more peppy then what I've been driving. If I end up buying it, which I'm hoping I will sometime this year, damn back-ordered parts, I'll be hooking up that boost gauge to check where I'm at but is between 8-9psi a pretty safe bet for a DD with stock internals?

From what I hear all you really need is a good tune (Unichip or SS) and should be able to safely(?) run 10psi on stock internals pushing about 220 to the wheels.

Of course clutch and flywheel w/ welded LSD is a must.

After that your pretty much good to go. I like that SteedSpeed mani. (evil)

Awesome man, that sounds about where I want to be for now, until I could get it paid down and buy a small truck as my DD, then it's game on! Yea, I like it too and I didn't even realize I had it :D

Hopefully I'm not bugging the crap out of you guys, it's just good to hear from those who have actually done/used these mods and parts.

Hey, one more thing, are the gauges white or a silver color?

Yeah same here. I plan on building one sick @ss protege for my everyday use and occasional autox and track days. Only the best touches my baby (rockon)

I haven't personally used anything I just mentioned, but my brother (CitizenPro) pretty much did the route I just told you about and was staying with Stage 1 STI's and SRT-4's.

Over course he had a bit more then what I described (CF goodies for weight reduction, 626 mani w/ VTCS removed and FMIC), but if you want to know exactly what was under the hood you could ask him.

Silver

Awesome, I hear ya on that! After coming from a BMW and looking through all the parts for the MSP, I'm still shocked at how low the prices are. With half the money I put into my damn 325, I could have a 12 second MSP by now, lol. Giving me something exciting to look forward to, hehehe.

You just gotta take care of them. I have religiously changed the oil at 3k miles and kept up with all required maintenance.

sounds like a rotary ha!

these cars are amazing. if you follow the "mods for a daily driven msp" sticky you'll notice the difference. its like a completely different car. i drove my freinds and it was great!

Sounds good, well I'll check back here in case anyone wants to add anything further and thanks again. I'll keep everyone posted and hopefully I'll end up taking her home (msptitani (thumb)

Well they will swap right in but you have to redo the wiring since Sedan is H4 and the Hatch has dedicated high/low beams. Low is H7 and High is 9005.

A bit of rewiring and you can make it work. Also one problem when doing this is the Sedan when switching to high beam cuts off the low beam. The Hatch actually leaves both on at the same time. A simple diode can cure this problem or a relay can do the trick as well. Just have to wire them in correctly.

Its a bit more than "will swap right in." lol. To do the headlights, you have to take the whole front bumper off and as DarkAngel said, you need to do some re-wiring as well. I recently did mine and it came out pretty well. I still need to re-adjust my front bumper to get it to line back up properly, but as long as you're brave enough to do work like that on your car, then go for it.

I've had my MSP for about a year and a half now and I love it. As long as you stay on top of the maintenance, don't drive it like you stole it, and keep the modifications light, you won't have any issues with it.

As others have said, read up on some of the MSP trouble spots and either replace some of the more failure-prone parts ahead of time, or set aside money to fix them when they do go!

Welcome to the club!

Thanks guys, hopefully I will join the club. I'm a little bummed about the issues I found with car and that the damn parts are on backorder, otherwise I would already have her parked in the garage. I wish I at least had an ETA on the parts *sigh* especially because I'm just rackin up more miles on my Bimmer (that and I'm excited to start tuning again :D)

figure out wich parts are on back order. we on here could show u stock replacements to let the stealership know about to make the purchase date come sooner. let us know, all of the replacement parts u stated can be had in aftermarket oem replacements. like the wastegate they could order the atp, rear sway bar bushings can be had for about 20 to 30 though many sites.

Alright, I'll call and see if I can get an answer as I do want to get this deal taken care of. Lol hell I don't even have the car yet and I've already mentally spent almost $300 on parts I'm waiting to order for it.

watch how far you push that stock motor. good cars, but stock rods = crap. but thats not just mazda thats any car. i'de hate to see you blow it up.i think a proper tune at 8-10psi is "safe". like was previously stated, don't drive it like you stole it...not 24/7 anyway
