It's not a communist thing. Off the top of my head I know two countries that do this: South Korea and Israel. Neither of which are communist.

china does it too lol

I can see where you're coming from. The military teaches you respect and morals. I feel the majority of this country has lost that. For the most part, the people old enough to argue will never change so there are just lost. But if we did do this then the kids will grow up stronger and more proud of who and what they are.

They'll have to lock me up first.

When I was in high school I joined the ROTC program with full intentions of joining the military. When the time came they turned me down because I have asthma (very mild).

I don't have a problem with required military service, but if they wouldn't take me when I had nothing going on in my life and I wanted to join then they wont get me now that I do have a life and I don't want to join.

I think it is bulls*** and I wouldn't serve. If I wanted to be in the military I would have enrolled already.

Don't complain about the things you're willing to tolerate.
Depends on what it is or why you may be forced to tolerate it. An opinion can be praise or complaint based upon on ones own personal thoughts about something. ***WARNING***I see immigration problems coming Canada's way if this passes.

The only reason there are still wars in the world is because people are still making billions upon billions from them.

This is bulls*** "between 18-42" WTF?
I am suppose to lose my home and everything I own because I am consripted into some socialist workers program at age 36?
**** you very much. I served my time and I would have no issue with a 18-20 year old draft but anyone allready living with a family or far invested into a college education should be left out of the loop.
Those other countries generally draft the young while they have ample time to go to school and before they are burdened with the responsiblity of a home and family.
Yeah I can pay my 1800$ a month mortgage on a soldier's salary. I think not.

i don't care, i already did my time. something like this would make all the ungrateful s**** perhaps have a different opinion of things. it would be interesting to see what sort of civilian service would be required. you know all the rich ***** would still get out of serving their time.

you'd have enough to pay off the mortgage, but forget having any left over money for food or anything else

The 18-42 thing does seem a bit extreme...but what the army needs is trained professionals in some cases, and foot soldiers in others.

If they would pay all my debts and cover the expenses my family would have while I was away, I'd serve a few years as a computer technician or something. I am good at what I do and I wouldn't mind putting my skills to use to help our country.

But to hand a 42-year-old with a wife, a house, kids, and maybe grand kids, a rifle and tell him to patrol the streets of Baghdad is completely absurd. I would never sign away my life unless I had a written guarantee that I was going to be far away from the front line.

Hummm some many people want to eat the fruits but no one wants to do the work to grow it. Typical America for you.

thats me  I could give a s*** what you think about it tho :)

yeah, why grow the fruit when someone less fortunate can do it and i won't have to hear about it

sorry if I dont believe on risking my life for what some asshole that sits behind a desk decides...I already get enough of that by having a job...

dont get me wrong tho...I commend every person that serves & thank them for it but its our choice to do it & I chose not to.
