New Michelin MXM4 215/50/17 93

At 65K it was time for tires. The MXV4 set that I put on the car in '09 with 100 miles on the car still had a lot of tread, but was vibrating bad when turning the wheel. I was worried it wasn't just tires, so bit the bullet.

No more MXV4, so went with MXM4. I go 215 instead of 205 on this car. 93 load rating instead of the ridiculously unnecessary 95. I wish they made 89. The old tires were 91.

Decent tire, but not nearly as good as the discontinued MXV4. Should have just bought the Premier A/S and taken the gamble. These are much louder, but the do perform better.

Just a heads up on my experience.

I'll be interested to see how those take impacts over the long haul. I had that model tire in a 45 series and they were as brittle as Kanyes ego, replaced three tires due to sidewall bubbles.

Well, great. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the heads up!

Bear in mind I was also rolling on VERY elderly struts and blown rear shocks when this was happening, so probably not fair to blame the tires alone for the failure. They WERE fantastic in the wet....

Heard good things on the Premier A/S as well, will probably try that next time

what is the proper size for 215 wide 17" tires? i bought my 5 used with 215/45/17, i believe its slightly shorter than 205/55/16

anybody try 225/45/17?

I agree with the "brittle" comment on the Michelins. It was at about half way through their lifespan when the sidewalls, close to where the tread is, started to show signs of deterioration. My wife's car (5) is at 84K and I will be on my third set of tires (including the OEM). Im going to go with the Cooper tires. It is mainly a cost issue at this point. If I am going to replace tires every 35 to 40k might as well pay $80 a tire, rather than $180. Its just a daily commuter and she wouldn't know the difference in performance. The cooper (Zeon R53-A) tire seems to get good reviews on here.

I'm currently running 225/45/17 on my 2012 MZ5. No problems at all. But I'm not running oem rims. I'm running 17x7.5 with +45mm offset. Stock rims are 17x6.5 with +52mm offset. I have had decent luck on our 2008 MZ5 with 215/45/17 on OEM rims but these are a bit shorter sidewall than the stock 205/50/17.
