Hey all. I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself and ask a quick question.

First of all I just got a 06 speed6 about 2 weeks ago and absolutely LOVE the car. I have been a mazda guy for life, just retired my '90 miata that had
351K miles on it.

It doesn't take much to realize that these cars are held back by restricted airflow, so I just ordered a COBB SRI. That being said I would like to know what tools are required/ any quick tips to installing this.

I've always preformed the maintenance on my cars, but I always used OEM parts. This will be the first time I "modded" a car, so there is a natural hesitance for me to install parts that aren't factory.

I've been screening this forum for some time and know this is a great community for support and one that has a shared enthusiasm for these great cars.

Welcome to the forums. If its anything like doing the cobb sri on a ms3 its rather easy. You will have more room under the hood to work too. I think you can take apart most of this car with a standard metric sockett set. 8, 10, 14mm i believe.

installation is really easy. You would need a 10mm i think and some other minor tools you should be good though

a 30 min install

yea what they said the install is pretty simple. remove the factory airbox both pieces then install the SRI.

welcome and install of your sri should be fairly quick. u may also go one step further and remove very bottom portion of the stock intake in the fender well. it's a bit of a pain, but if you choose to do so i would recommend removing the one screw that holds the bumper to the fender for a little more room to work. i will post a pic of what i'm speaking of later on.

You'll need at least a 10mm as a couple users said above. You'll also need a screwdriver and possibly a 12mm as well. It's really rather easy. The first 20 minutes are getting the old airbox out. The last 10 minutes are seeing a great intake go into the car.

Take a look between the bulkhead and the engine and you'll find the TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe). The factory plastic piece is incredibly restrictive and thin. Some users have found that upon installation of the Cobb SRI they felt like the turbo was choking for air. Upon installation of the Cobb TIP they noted that it was a night and day difference.

In short, I encourage you to order one of these as well. It's a very similar price as the SRI. I think of the vendor sites they are listed under Mazdaspeed 3 parts. However, it works for the MS6 with no problem. It will really open up the breathing of your MS6. They connect to each other under the hood so installation is easiest in doing both at the same time.

Welcome to the forums. Enjoy this wonderful car!

Yeah, I have read about upgrading the TIP on other threads. My only real problem is that I just recently moved and all of my tools are at my parents house. However, I'm thinking of just ordering a TIP and BPV and doing the installation all at once.
