WELCOME TO THE MSP REALM
Here is what i did for mine, im a new owner too, 3 weeks, I installed a short ram intake DIY style, the 60 degree bend from autozone, some silicone couplers and a 2.75 in neck filter(if you PM ill send pics of it, really easy). It flutters really nice, and i was at the track tonight and some people in the stands said it sounded nice. The stock airbox has a silencer in it. with the short ram though its the kind of flutter you might like, kinda like the movies sort of flutter, and as for messin with the BOV..... DONT, I know its tempting to unhook one end of the BPV to hear it, but thats how I broke the plasic neck on my hot pipe. Plus if you go the atmospheric route, the ECU accounts for the air that comes from the BPV so if you vent outside, then the ECU throws too much fuel at the motor and it dies.
and my greddy turbo timer has worked perfectly. just takes some wireing skills.
But find a local shop, have them make a hot pipe(mine cost me $85 installed)
then have a muffler shop (A GOOD ONE) make a downpipe to the mazdaspeed exhaust. our stock exhaust is funny, it is a MP3 exhaust width from the turbo halfway down the car then it widens out (weird) but this local shop here is making me some 2.75inch from the turbo back, eliminating one cat, and having it go straight to the stock tip, for a straight pipe SRT4 style sound. I unhooked the axle back to hear it to make sure I would like it, but the cackle is too hard to not like, im having a shop do it cuz you cant order a straight pipe with only resonator.
And then there is the wastegate spring boost controller DIY, there are mixed feelings about this on the forum, saying dont, some say do, my ecu is one of the BUM ones that dumps fuel, so i am safe, or at least my stoich says so. but if your speed is FINE and doesnt drop off at 1 psi of boost or higher(feels like your towing something at full throttle
these are budget ideas that WORK, but are no means like the HIGH dollar items out there, but im guessing you just dropped a big down payment to buy the MSP too, I know I did. BUT I do have plans, almost there. (FMIC, AEM EMS, RODS, PISTONS im budgeting to buy all at once)
in closing.....turbo timer GOOD, BPV > BOV(dies)
I'll take some pics of the short ram for you, its a CLEAN install if done right($38.25 at autozone)
