2002 Protege 5
2/3/14
Hey whats up. I just barely signed up to this forum site and love it already. Ive got lots of questions and hope for lots of feedback.
I currently own a 2002 Protege 5 with, unfortunately, an auto trans with tiptronic shifting. I plan on doing a mild N/A build, no major engine work... YET.
My car is currently stock will upload photos thru project duration,

here are the parts I plan to purchase
Megan Racing, Full adjustable Coilovers.
Either progress or mazdaspeed sway bars.
Eibach Camber adjust kit F&R.
OBX 4-1 exhaust headers.
IAT chip... yes I know.
SR Motorsports underdrive pulley kit.
And some new rims and tires to step up from the tiny 14's currently on. Im thinking like a 16x7 rim w/ 195/50R16.
Slightly further down the road I plan on fabricating a full stainless steel exhaust from the header all the way out and a cold air intake as well.
I'd love some input on the megan racing coilovers and advice to find some good f&r sway bars, if the mazdaspeed bars worthwhile or not same goes for the coilovers

Went out and bought some new rims and tires, just stock size 16" rims and tires

So checking the fluids under my hood, and the cause of my CEL. And what do I find to cause my P0171 bank 1 too lean, the protege notorious ripped open intake tube. So after spending some time in the shop at work I make myself a new intake here's the new addition I fabricated.
2.5" 316 stainless steel intake tubing

IAT chip? If that's what I'm thinking of, don't bother. All it will do is foul your plugs and waste gas. "Fooling" your ecu into thinking the air is cooler will only hurt your performance.

As for sway bars, you really just need to do the rear bar. The front bar on these cars is HUGE relative to the rear.

As far as exhaust and intake, there are a few options that are prefabbed and proven to work. Racingbeat, corksport, etc.

My friend let me install an old set of rims and tires for a couple days which were 17x7 215/45R17 which has an oversized diameter than the stock, which rubs in the rear going over any decent bump. I also wanted to keep in mind the weight of each tire, to not have too much rolling mass. When I installed forementioned rims, I experienced noticable loss of road power due to heavier setup

If I were to put in the IAT chip i would like to find an upgraded ignition or a multi-spark ignition to burn the additional fuel better. Besides it would only richen within stock parameters
