new member - wet passenger floor

Hi, I just joined the forum.

My daughter has a 2000 Protege ES with 140,xxx miles that she bought about three months ago. She says that the passenger floor carpet is soaked.

I searched around and found three possible causes:
1. clogged sunroof drains (out - she doesn't have a sunroof)
2. clogged AC drain
3. cracked seam sealant behind fender well liner.

Since she hasn't noticed it until now when it is nice and hot and running the AC non-stop, I'm pretty sure that it is the AC drain. However, I can't seem to locate the AC drain tube. Does anyone have a pic of the passenger compartment showing the AC drain tube?

its most likely a cracked seam. i had the same problem

The drain tube comes out at the firewall inside the engine compartment. It's sort of below where the cruise control would be mounted, and near the heater hoses.

I pulled up the carpet somewhat and tried to soak up as much of the water from the pad/insulation as possible with a towel. Once that dries out, she should be able to pinpoint whether the water is from driving in wet conditions or from having the AC on in dry conditions.

It's raining here today so we may know later today.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's the A/C at this point. It's definitely not coming from the wheel well. I sealed the seams just to make sure a while ago but it's still getting soaked. Plus, we've barely had any rain over the last several weeks.

My next step is to try to find the drain and see if I can run a little drain snake through it and clean it out. I've got a manual on PDF for the car but it doesn't even mention the drain so it's not been much help. Does anyone have a pic of this little bugger?

Ask 323, we did his at my house and it was horrible and he had the same issues. I think he took some pics too. We cleaned it and sealed it inside and out and to my knowledge no more issues.

yup, no more issues for me. I won't be able to post pictures until tomorrow so stay tuned

thanks..... im having the same problem with mine. the first time it happened it was my heater core that went out coolant all over the place so we just bypassed it. so when this happened it couldnt have been my heater core because its still bypassed so im thinking its the ac so what did you use to unclog it a snake or what?

this is proof of where my leak was coming from at the passenger floor area

so..... use some sorta sealant in this corner as high as you can

also, me and jonridinhi found a buncha soil cloggin up my rain water drain

you can find pictures of where we blasted it with compressed air here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5172818&postcount=93

also, heres a long thread on chasing this leak issue too that u may find some other good info: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123757400

Umm, I think the problem you fixed was with water coming in from the outside. That isn't the problem here. It hasn't rained in weeks and it is still soaked. So, my assumption is that it is a clogged A/C drain tube. But I can't find any pictures of where the A/C drain tube actually is.

ah..my guess is on the firewall somewhere on the passenger side. u should let ur carpet dry too, it'll make it easier for you to track down the leak

Please read my post above - I already explained that it's a short piece of tubing that empties into the engine bay, right below the cruise control and near the heater hoses. You can't miss it...

I did see your post but still couldn't see the drain tube...that's why I was looking for a picture. I can take another look but I only get to look at it whenever she visits so it may be a while.
