2016.5 Mazda CX-5 Touring
Hey everyone! Figured I should introduce myself if I'm gonna be hanging around :)

On Friday, my fiance' (wife next month) and I purchased a brand new 2016.5 Cx-5 Touring from Horne Mazda in Tempe, AZ

We were upgrading from her old Hyundai Accent, because she's 8-months pregnant and I wanted her to have something safe and reliable. Our other car is a 2004 Chevy Tahoe Z71, so driving the Mazda is a nice change of pace for me.

So far we absolutely love the car! We were able to buy the car at dealer invoice, and got 5 years 0% financing so Mazda definitely treated us right.

The passenger side heated seat was not getting hot, and there was a small scratch in the steering wheel but the dealer is fixing that as we speak.

Anyway, I'm thrilled to be here and can't wait to start bugging you all with stupid questions.

Welcome from Glendale. We've got a 2013 CX-5 Touring. Also White. 5 years old this March and nearing 65k trouble free miles.

It's funny how that works out, isn't it?

lol...

I know the feeling :)

I wanted leather, climate control, and all the tech gizmos. She wanted cloth, manual A/C controls and none of that fluff.

Guess why we have a touring instead of a GT lol?

my wife's one demand was heated seats, but since sirius only comes on the GT i told her i was pretty sure you could only get the heated seats in leather which meant getting a gt...oops (sssh)

Welcome to the forum.
Nice pick and Pic! A good upgrade for the soon to be family...

You did not mention, is it FWD or AWD>?

Any mod's that are on the list?
Might I suggest adding the EURO/JAPAN Market PADDLE SHIFTERS. Less than $200 for the parts, and it sure makes the car even more enjoyable.

Welcome and congrats! Getting behind the wheel of the Tahoe has to feel like maneuvering a small barge around after driving the CX-5. haha

Initially my wife didn't want leather but wanted heated seats. I was quite happy to find that they were available on the Touring trim. We go to the dealership to walk around and look at them and she feel in love with the Deep Crystal Blue Mica and Parchment interior which of course was only available on the GT. Needless to say we drove away with the GT trim. ;)

Thanks Mazdadude! It's a FWD model. We considered 4wd, but living in Phoenix it's not a huge concern and we figured we'd save on gas with FWD.

I've got lots of idea for mods, but I have to try to restrain myself since it's mostly her DD. I have a 2017 MX-5 RF on my personal wish-list :)

For now I want to definitely upgrade the wheels, and maybe do a few trim accessories, but nothing major. Paddles sound cool, but I doubt she would ever use them lol.

Thank you!

Funny about the Tahoe, that was exactly what I said first time I switched. The Tahoe literally feels like a dump-truck. No brakes, no power, no steering, no fun to drive factor, etc. I need to retire it from DD to 3rd vehicle duties ASAP...

another one of those preference things - the only thing that kept me away from the Deep Crystal Blue was the lack of black leather availability

To OP, I highly recommend JDM rear seat headrests and these low-profile headrests can give you (oh, your wife :)) a full view of the back window from rearview mirror for big safety improvement. And you no longer need to remove them to fold the seat backs.

If you're interested, you can go through full 38 pages of history for this topic:
How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

But you may have to email japanparts.com on correct part number for your sand cloth interior:

The part numbers for Mazda CX-5 non-US version JDM rear seat headrests are:

2013~2015:
KD49-88-240 02 - Black Touring Cloth with Red Stitching
KD51-88-240 02 - Black GT Leather with Red Stitching
KD51-88-240 34 - Sand GT Leather with Sand Stitching

2016~?:
K070-88-240 02 - Black Touring Cloth with Black Stitching
K072-88-240 02 - Black GT Leather with Black Stitching
K073-88-240 39 - Parchment GT Leather with Parchment Stitching

Don't try to get those JDM headrests from US Mazda dealers. They can't order those.

Congrats!

Hi yrwei52, were you able to sell your old headrests anywhere?
96 a pop is great, even better if you were able to get some for the older headrests. Not sure who would buy a used one since if one gets damaged in a crash I am assuming the car is wrecked itself lol.

I can believe it. Start making the deal for that RF now!

Very true. Her other choice was the Soul Red with black leather but the blue/parchment combo called to her, particularly the door cards and the contrast with the black plastic.

Just wanted to provide you all with an update on my issues.

The heated seat is indeed a failed unit, and they stated they could not get the part until May!

I called Mazda Corporate and complained, to no avail. I was getting pretty frustrated, but I ended up speaking to the Sales Manager, and Service Manager, and convinced them that they should grab the part they need from another car on the lot. I have an appointment scheduled for 9am tomorrow to fix the steering wheel scratches, and repair the seat heater. Will update tomorrow evening!

No, didn't think about selling the old rests as I assumed nobody wants them. I'll put those back to our CX-5 when we re-sell it and hopefully I can re-use the JDM rests on our next new CX-5. :)
