New member '07 Mazda3 starting problems

Hello all,
I am a new member, sorry to admit it but I joined because I have a problem. I am sure I will stick around though! I am on forums for both of my motorcycles and find them very helpful and entertaining.
Anyways...I have a 2007 Mazda3, I am not sure if any of the rest of you with this model have had this happen but...
For the last few weeks my car has often been turning over for a looooong time before starting. Sometimes it will start, shake, stumble, then stall. Almost always when I turn off and try to start again it starts the second time. It doesn't matter if car is cold or warm. The battery seems strong, it turns over fast not slow and has never died...and the car is only a couple of years old. The miles (75K) put it out of warranty, so I am hesitant to take it to the dealer without more info. There have been no check engine or error codes, ever. Hopefully I can learn from others that have had similar problems if this is a common problem with the model.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Brooke

hi Brooke,
check the basics first. I would look at the plugs. I usually change mine around 60K. try some fuel system cleaner also. I'm new to these myself, but most cars require a fuel filter change around 50-60K as well.
so, I would say it's not a 'problem', just some maintenance required.

Good idea, I have just been changing the oil. I figured the modern plugs would be good for more than 2 years, but I do drive alot. I guess it is time for a little more mantenance than the oil changes I have been doing.
I was curious if this was a common problem with other owners. Perhaps I will post on the engine section of the forums.
Thanks!

I had that problem , It was my purge Solenoid. Acted like an intake leak and leaned out my air\fuel mixture. Put new one , fixed instantly.

Might also have picked up some debris while filling up. Had a problem two summers ago that sounds like yours. Would crank for maybe 10 seconds before starting. A mechanic where I worked said it was most likely a chunk of carbon sticking in an injector causing the prolonged start. You'll may want to try some industrial strength fuel system cleaner. I forget what it's called at the moment, but the $16 can of this stuff cleaned out the problem instantly.
