bought a new kenwood head unit because my stock one blew... i plugged it right into the stock harness and everything powered up perfectly except for my subwoofer. i have an after market 250 watt kicker 12" sub but its powered off the stock amp. all the wiring is aftermarket as well. everything is hooked up correctly and the amp is getting power, just no juice out the sub. someone told me my wires might be too small... any ideas at all?

Is the blue remote turn on wire getting power when the radio is on? It should read 12 volts when the radio is on and there should be a light that turns on on the amp. Also check to see that the sub output on the deck is turned on. If the amp is on and the deck is sending a signal, try a different set of RCAs.

The size of your power wiring shouldn't make a difference with the stock amp as long as it is no smaller than 10 gauge. It will make a difference however if your ground is bad. Be sure that is in a place where it will get a very good connection to metal.

also, are the RCA cables hooked up to the new HU behind the dash?

I know you said "everything is hooked up properly", but 99% of the time with an issue like this, thats the problem.

is the sub option in the HU turned on? some decks require that.....just starting with the simple stuff.

that might be the problem. i bought the unit at Fry's electronics in San Diego (well known store in SD) and specifically asked the guy if it was capable with a sub and he said yes. turning the sub is a feature in the manual but impossible to find on the actual unit...
